In person Synth lessons

todd barton! teaches lessons via zoom

I’d like to suggest a book to use as a reference on top of the Intro to Modular Synthesis that @plragde wrote: Patch & Tweak by Kim Bjørn and Chris Meyer, it helped me immensely when I started with modulars to use as a reference, and has also some pretty nice interviews with artists using them in their music creation process.

I know that Jeremy Blake (Red Means Recording) does private Zoom lessons that he will tailor to your goals. He rubs some people the wrong way, but I find his YT channel to be an outstanding education resource.

I also think @DaveMech does Zoom lessons as well. He’s also an outstanding educator (his video courses for the Digi boxes are top notch), although I am unsure how he works with his direct students.

Broser if it’s the basic premise and how everything works and how you can use, I got you. I’m in AZ though, but I’ve got a camera and free time.
PM me, worse case scenario it beco.es a hanging with the hommies session.

Thanks for the kind words!

Yeap I create personalized lesson plans and teach via zoom. can always PM me for more information!

Modulate the modulator, that is what gives the unexpected results. Besides that check your oscillators for tuning in intervalls and experiment with offsetting these. In Elekteon world we have to learn aswell what will work, 6 monrh daily sessions and you will be fine.

I gave a composer friend a series of lessons on basic modular workflow, demoing using VCVrack in a coffeeshop.

Granted, he already uses synths but didn’t sweat the sound design since he’s focused on the music over patch creation, but it was still inspiring enough that he’s used some of the instruction in other projects.

Check your local synth shop (so long as it’s not a generic guitar store…), if the staff don’t have an official policy or staff tutor, they can suggest you another person good for the gig.

Omri Cohen’s youtube channel is how i jumped into learning about modular. Still learn something new every day but his videos helped me understand the basics.

*not a 1 on 1 lesson but might be helpful to you
