Thanks. What’s the quality of these like? How do they feel to use?
I like the knob and fader feel, pretty short throw but it works. Case is plastic but fine. Not sure I’d want to gig them though, especially with using magnets to click them together. But fine around the studio, I’ve had them for a few years and still going strong.
But mainly, I looked a bit but not aware that there’s a huge amount of other options that will give you fader + a bunch of sends. Launch Control XL was the other one I looked at but 3 pots wasn’t enough for me.
Faderfox MX12 + Faderfox PC12 would do this. not cheap, but matches your criteria. i’ve been using the PC12 to control Ableton recently and it’s built like a tank.

Thanks. Unfortunately they are discontinued now…
they pop up on Reverb regularly, i think i’ve seen people selling them here in the lounge a few times.

Ouch. I know they are high quality controllers. But $1,750 for a pair of midi controllers? I’d have to cut back on my filet mignon and caviar for a month. No can do. 
Supposedly Mr. Fader Fox has some new things in the pipeline. Maybe just a rumor. Don’t quote me.

I really like to see things like these when we all get bogged down in specs. I know it’s not ableton, but there’s so much possibility to do so much with ableton an a launch control xl if you do shit, and not just think about limitations.

I really think I should just move itb and use Ableton (practicality, speed, flexibility etc.). I think the thing holding me back is some fetishisation of gear, some mental association of gear with superiority, being part of the gear club. It’s weird.
Any advice from those who moved away from gear to the laptop?

One thing I’ll chime in about is that computers have come a long way in regards to latency and stability. I went from a self built Windows desktop that I ran for about 8 years to a MacBook Air M3 (about two years ago). The experience is night and day. No fan, never worry about cpu or dropouts, and run Ableton at 32 ms. Combined with the Move running in Live mode it’s pretty amazing and sounds incredible.

Yeah, been through a couple, settled on a little Akai MPK mini MK3, will probably get one of the novation controllers eventually for more knobs/sliders.
I’ve got a push 2, but it’s mostly on a shelf.
I have had so much hardware over the last 40+ years and still have. But I only need a computer these days. Ableton Live with Max for Live, Push 3 (also used as Audio interface), a tablet with Knobbler 4 (remote control for Live). And then there is my little Eurorack linked via ADAT. That’s it. No 3rd party plugins needed.

Without question this has been an uphill battle for me for like 14 years since I purchased an analog four
I work waaaay faster with ableton and a laptop and easily get better results but I still love elektrons and gear and keep accumulating stuff (and selling,reselling and buying again !)

When you perform your tracks with your band, are you using session or arrangement view? What exactly do you do? Tweak a few knobs and keep everything running in sync?
Well I’m only about 20% of the way to building the live set.
At the minute I’m just running a really big project and switching between arrangement and session views to keep tabs on everything, not a whole lot better than just pressing play, but once I’ve got the album finished I’m going to build a proper live set in session view, which could end up being managing multiple clips and scenes per song or maybe even just setting up a couple of “decks” in session view and DJing the fuck out of the material and maybe playing a bit of Lyra or polivoks over the top.
This video was particularly inspirational in terms of thinking about setting up a live set in Ableton.
