I'm all ears

im a musician with 35 years plus experience and I am poised ready to purchase my first Elektron box, help me make up my mind by suggesting a single, commercially available album you can point my ears towards as an example of Elektron’s majesty? Don’t care about genre. There is only good music and bad music.

Not the best way of getting an idea of what the boxes can do IMO. If you calibrate yourself by listening to the best examples then you’ll be disappointed when your first noodlings don’t stack up. All of them are very different, surely you know which sort of gap is in your current setup? been watching youtube videos etc? what kind of workflow do you prefer?

Oh no. I’m not looking for a purchasing decision. I’m looking for inspiration

My new elektron box will be bedfellows with my Minilogue + Monotribes+ Microgranny + MC303+ Les Paul + vox + harp/sitar/banjo/melodica.
Hand moving towards RYTM but might wait for DT.

Just want some aural pleasure meantime

Your mention of Harp/sitar/banjo/melodica would prob make OT a lot of fun. And you have a 4 voice poly in the minilogue that you can sequence from OT. Tho I’m digging my AK more every time I use it. Very deep synth…

Digitakt looks cool but OT is all about scenes/fader for me…That’s not fully true. It does a lot more besides. But scenes/fader is a big deal

If you’re mainly looking for a drum machine then digitakt seems obvs choice to save some money if you want samples/onboard sampling more than analog drums (rytm).

Edit - just saw your post about not looking for purchase advice, oh well

Two of my favourites would be Silent Shout by the Knife and Product by SOPHIE but both of those are Monomachine / Machinedrum rather than the newer analogue stuff (and based on your list of gear I’m not sure they’d be to your taste). I’m not sure if there are many whole albums that are identifiable as predominantly A4, AR or OT based.

Rivington Não Rio by Prefuse 73 maybe? There’s a lot of other stuff going on in that record though.

Check out Actress. Almost only Elektrons on his early stuff. Ghettoville contains a lot of Octatrack. Not to mention Elektron’s own @Dataline who’s published a fine many pieces with mainly Elektron gear.
