I'm afraid to resample!

Have you ever faced with this? How do you deal with it? I feel like I need full control over each aspect of sound until the track is done, and thus avoid resampling when possible. The point is, from the other hand, that I feel that I don’t use full potential of this beautiful box. Because of this I also think that I spend a little bit too much time on sound design instead of making actual music. Is there any recipe to “stop worrying and love resampling” ?

Resampling should be part of your sound design as it will lead you to new sounds ! It’s fun and if you like to experiment, just go ahead and do whatever cross your mind.

It’s like have numbers you are afraid to mix together because they look cool as they are, until you sum 1 and 1 to give you a SHINY 2 !!!

Or maybe an apple and an orange to give you a tasty APPANGE !!!

When the Octatrack first came out I was really put off by the idea of live resampling, believing I would not have the skills to pull it off. It never appealed to me, so I ignored the machine for the last few years.

But, it turns out that live sampling is really very easy thanks to the record trigs, and it leads to creative, interesting results very quickly.

Put some time aside, start a new experimental only project and give it a shot … it’s a lot of fun!

I understand your dilema. But you can use different bank for that purpose :
Use bank A to make patterns. When your happy, sample your pattern and bring it to the Bank B. Here you can mangle it as you want, assign different machine/sample to the track … And if you want you can always come back to the bank A.

Using the transistion trick you can seemlessly resample your pattern and move the corresponding audio from bank to bank. This is particularly useful if you have preconfigured some of your bank.
In my case, for instance
Bank P = is configured as a drum machine
Bank O = midi-sequencer + processs audio of the external gear
Bank N = effect machine/sampler for my vinyls,…

See you,

I don’t want to change the thread topic, but that technique of have pre-configured banks sounds quite interesting zite909… could you explain some more?

I created a new topic explaining the “pre-configured bank” trick

decent thoughts here! definitely going to try launching new project and forcing myself into resampling. moreover, I’ll not save any patches for my synths to think more of “now” and sample when I spot lovely sound. hopefully, I’ll end up with good project in one box, not spread across several devices.

thank you
