I recently got a P23 and Ive been having tremendous fun with it.
Only problem(not really) would be that I get too immersed in the sonic exploration that I cant get myself to make a full, structured track with it.
I think OT would be a great companion for Pulsar for capturing loops and bits
But I also dont wanna lose the loose, off-the-grid, unpredictibility that P23 excels at.
Im wondering if anyone else uses the P23+OT combo and how they go about doing it

You can capture loops but that’s gonna have to fit within a typical time signature eventually. OT is cool cause you can make a pattern any number of steps but recording the loop and making it fit the number of steps to capture clean loops won’t be much fun considering pulsar is by nature completely free of time restrictions (if I understand correctly). If I had one I’d just catch shorter samples and loops to arrange in OT where you can do all sorts of weird time signatures and stay pretty free as far as sequencers go. If not you’re gonna just have to catch your loop, trim it to perfect and do some time stretching to make it fit

Not sure if it’s what you’d want but with Flex machines it’s possible to record up to 8 off grid loops with OT and play them directly. From very short granular like recordings to long recordings. Each loop having its own length, unquantized.
You can also retrigger the loops.
I prefer quantized things, but I found it interesting…

Since midi sequencing of the Pulsar-23 is so simple and easy I would especially utilize the OT’s MIDI tracks to control parts of the Pulsar-23.

When I do beats with OT and Pulsar I like to set up different midi track which add a different energy…
Pulsar has a lot of sounds tucked in between velocities
So I usually make a main beat which has full velocity on one midi track. Then I have several other midi tracks which are all composed of Arps with different arp settings. These arp tracks have way lower velocity and are there to create ghost notes for the main beat… this can really inject a beat with energy and really mix up a beat by switching midi tracks on the fly…

And since Octatrack is the only Elektron midi sequencer where you can actually p-lock and LFO arp settings, there is a lot of experimenting to be done there…
Using plays free sequences is also a lot of fun…

I’ve never used midi tracks on OT before so I’ll definitely dive in to explore what possibilities open up when I use them with Pulsar this weekend!
