Ideas for Elektron Sequencer

Microtiming presets aka groove templates

I would like to see some OP-Z implemented…

Specifically separating note locks from parameter locks… so that you could set different conditions to the locked parameters and the locked notes…

I would also like to see sequencers being able to modulate the sequence it self (scale and length for instance). The OP-Z almost does this with help from a midi sequencer (CC on scale and lengths). But I would love to see it as additional modulation destinations.

Also the ability for one track to modulate another track by eitheR LFO’s, envelopes or locks is something I would like to see, this is one of the coolest features of the Nerdseq.

And last I would like ARP’s to be modulatable (looking at you A4 and DN)

My conclusion for Elektron is that they need to step up their sequencer game. It feels like they’ve been living of the Octatrack hype for to long and not really come up with anything new and unique.

I would love to see a sequencer that is more like a modular sandbox, with the ability to modulate basically anything. This would give me great creative freedom.

Those are absolutely brilliant ideas and MUST!
As addition to everything said above…

“modularity” is the key… sequencer which modulates another tracks and itself - scale, start/end points, restart from beginning, playing mode (fwr/bkwrd/pendulum/random), just start/stop - YES!

arpeggiator parameters controllable with p-lock and/or lfo - fkknYEAH!

Now I have a serious question!

We already suggested here A LOT of amazing things, and even if a half of them get implemented in next Elektron machine (whatever it will be… ) it will be a super killer and a real breakthrough.

Now I’m wondering what we can do besides writing here to make it real?

Send 1.000.000 messages to Elektron support?
Make a petition on Change.org? ( I know it the past it worked with DSI Tempest )
Something else?

Let’s do something!

You email Elektron, whose product team wouldn’t have the time to necessarily monitor all of these threads 24/7

P locking via midi would be great imo.
Press a trig, send a midi CC corresponding to a knob, and have that value plocked in.

Would allow for things like recording midi LFO as plocks.

Also p lock randomization.
It could be amazing to be able to enter live record mode and then just randomize on each step. The current way to do this is super tedious (randomize then click each encoder per step)

if they want to be still the machine with „the“ Sequencer they really have to step up!

once the Zaquencer/Behringer team release their bcr32, which will be a huge success they‘ll pretty fast come up with a full fledged hybrid groovebox.

oh lord

Generally speaking I’ve grown to love Elektron sequencers and have a hard time going back to crappy ones.

But there are random features I find here and there that would be nice to have the n the Elektron sequencer.

One that I can think of is the “step loop” function in Korg sequencers.

Hmm, I still think on a lot of fronts Elektron sequencers have the edge, currently I can’t think of any others that integrate sequencing so well with the sound source. I sent in tons of feature requests many of which were implemented, some were not, I guess it is down to how they can be implemented into the UI without feeling clunky or tacked on.

I like the ideas posted, but I think that any features need to be implemented in a very lucid way, far too many devices are lacking in immediacy and elegance via too many button combos or illogical shortcuts, even some Elektron shortcuts that have been added after release are a bit clunky in use I think.

This is a tiny feature request for all the current Elektron products (especially the octatrack  Just posting here to see what people think.

It would be a per-pattern setting, and it would play the “fill” when exiting the current pattern. So with this setting enabled on a pattern, once I’ve queued up a pattern change, for the final play through of the pattern, it would act like fill has been pressed. This would reduce the button presses necessary to hold fill and change patterns all while transitioning in a live set.

What ya think?

cool, but maybe a bit too complicated and won’t work for everybody.

btw FILL mode is very well implemented in TR-808 or modern TR-8s, no need to copy that in Elektron boxes, but it’s quite useful to have in a live set, so if you really need handy FILLs, maybe its worth a try Roland.

I would rather have a “beat play” mode in Elektron - like if you press a pattern 1-16 button it immediately starts play that pattern exactly from that step where the “playhead” was at that moment, so you can “seamlessly” mix patterns, play with patterns like a beatmaker play with drum hits, or maybe even “arpeggiate” patterns. Pretty same thing implemented in Tempest, however I don’t use it much…

“Direct jump” already exists on AR and A4, but not on OT, I think.

Haven’t used A4 and AR, only DT/DN… Would love to have it as default function in all Elektron machines, quite useful…

So you can jump instantly to any pattern and it won’t start from the beginning but from the playing step of the sequence?

It’s goofy to me that it also exists on the Korg Volcas, but not the digis, i’m sure there’s a perfectly valid reason but still :scream:

my gripe amounts to “play nicer with my superior sequencer!” because I wish it were easier to utilize the strengths of both the Cirklon and the Elektron integrated sequencer at once.

basically I just wish for something like in mute mode, incoming note messages on the auto midi channel toggle each track’s mute status. instead of having to setup dedicated CC’s for each track’s midi channel and send either 0 or 127 to mute/unmute. then I can just leave it in mute mode while playing a song, and Cirklon can toggle these on/off for me.

edit: got this to work with Midipipe. wish I didn’t have to though…

some great ideas here.
one thing (maybe already mentioned) that I would sometimes like to use: a way to shift steps left/right on ALL tracks at once, not just the current selected track.

Some snapping values for velocity would be nice and might make it faster to add dynamics

Has someone mentioned conditional follow actions? So you can set a trig to jump to another trig rather than just the next trig. I’m DTKT only so this might exist somewhere.

Being able to select a pattern from scale select menu works on the Octatrack
but not any others it’s annoying when you want to change the scale of multiple patterns
