To take it even further, and maybe to a lame degree, or lame analogy…
Can you imagine a painter feeling guilty about not using every color of paint they have lying around the studio in every single painting? Of course not, right?
I don’t know. Maybe not the best analogy after all. A groove box, or a synth, can usually make a wide variety of sounds, whereas a tube of paint is generally one color unless diluted or mixed with other colors.
Okay, never mind. Maybe I suck at analogies. It sounded fun in my head but reality says otherwise.
Yeah definitely true. I wasted a bunch of money on things that didn’t work out before finding things that did. It’s like chasing the dream of some perfect mind/machine/hands interface that will just let music flow out of us, but hard to know what that is without taking the plunge and buying and selling things.
Solution for one groovebox interface and freedom of different flavours/sounds exists but in a hybrid environment.
There is Maschine, Push and MPC - you can stay with familiar hardware, build muscle memory but change whatever sound generator you need by selecting different VST’s. You need 303? Get ABL3 or Roland Cloud TB-303. You want JUNO sounds or FM, just look for it and test. Not to mention tons of FX available.
I went this direction as searching for perfect groovebox always ended with Maschine for me.
