Iconnect midi +4 opinions

out of interest, which devices are you referring to? you’re saying you have controllers that work fine with your computer with no proprietary driver installation that don’t work with the ICM4 + ?

Yes, the device I am referring to is a USB midi foot controller I picked up on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Button-METAL-USB-MIDI-Footswitch-Foot-Controller-with-external-pedal-input-/221450702182?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item338f7d8d66

Works with no issue plugged directly into my mac or iPad, but when plugged into the host port on the 4+ (with or without powered hub) it does not recognize the foot controller. The issue seems to be with devices that are not keyboard controllers. My Novation Launchkey 49 was recognized with no issue by the 4+.

Check out the iConnectivity Facebook page as there is a post from another user explaining what he has tried as well.

ok thanks. i can’t see anywhere in the blurb from the maker that it says it’s class compliant.

i don’t know why it works for you on mac and ipad without its own proprietary driver, someone else more knowledgable than me might be able to explain how that might be possible…

I am still trying to figure the device out for myself, but I haven’t been able to use any usb midi devices. I have tried Akai APC40, NI Maschine MKII, NI Kontrol X1 and F1. The power up lights flash but no midi functions seem to work. I have also tried using these connected to a powered USB hub without success.

Hopefully there is a trick to getting them to work and not a problem with the midi4+.

The OT USB cannot be used like this.

Instead, go to the Audio Info tab in iConfig and disable iOS audio. This will allow the audio to pass through the headphone output.

no worries…i was scratching my head about that one too at one point. so rewarding to be able to make someone’s day

Would it be possible to route the audio from the iCM4+ to a USB interface directly, instead of a computer? That’s the only thing that has kept me from buying it.

That is an interesting pedal. How do you edit the MIDI note/CC it sends? Is there an editor?
I just got the iCM4+ last night. I have had the iCM2+ for a while and it works great… but I want the ability to be able to plug my Logidy UMI3 into the iCM4+ directly sending the MIDI Notes required to trigger record/play/stop on the Pickup machines of the OT… with no computer. The Logidy also has an Expression Pedal input that should be able to be mapped to the crossfader on the OT.
The Logidy has an editor though so you can set all the buttons to the correct Midi Notes or CC’s etc.
I guess even if the ebay switch has fixed settings, I wonder if you can use the iCM4+ setup page to listen for those CC’s and then convert to the Note on the OT needs?

I hope the Logidy works though… I did not have time to test last night. If it does work, I will be sure to share that info here.

The USB foot controller’s midi CC mappings cannot be changed and are fixed. Yes, I planned on using the 4+ to convert the midi cc’s coming from the for controller to different midi cc’s to control the looper pedal I am using.

So far no word back from iConnectivity on why the 4+ will not recognize certain USB controllers plugged into the host port. I’ll keep everyone posted on this thread as soon as I hear anything. Really hope they find a fix to this issue!

Right so only certain USB. Devices aren’t supported? I hope that’s the case because I’ve been rethinking my purchase. It’s annoying when I don’t actually have it here to test

The manual states that the host port on the 4+ only accepts “USB class compliant devices”. My understanding is that a USB class compliant device is one that you can plug into your computer and it is recognized without having to download a driver for the device.

So, if this is the case, a USB device that is recognized by my computer should also in turn be recognized by the 4+. After testing a few different USB midi controllers this is not the case.

Tomorrow I will continue testing to confirm whether or not the 4+ will recognize the Octatrack, Analog Four, and Analog Rytm. I will report back with the results.

My support ticket with iConnectivity has been suspiciously quiet since last week. I can only hope they are working on it and not ignoring the known issue.

I would not put my money on a Launchpad S.

Looking at the manuals it as if it works with software only.
No MIDI editor or MIDI charts ?

Looking at the programmers reference manual, it does not look user friendly either, you would need max or something to do an interface for the OT! Nah…

I think the Launchpad S does not have any internal memory and relies solely on software for how it behaves.

I have a Ic midi 4+, and was looking at interesting USB controllers.
I guess it’s buyers beware and I don’t think iconnectivity mislead anyone.

Ex: I’m sure the BCF BCR-2000 would work great with the iconnect gear. (they have PC editors that you use to dump your configuration on to the on-board memory)

The main question I had when I bought It is if USB gear worked without a computer or ios device connected. I use my blofeld that way and it’s great.

"Tomorrow I will continue testing to confirm whether or not the 4+ will recognize the Octatrack… " ?

Please do not plug the Octatrack USB port to the Iconnect MIDI 4+

Fascinating… (sorry couldn’t resist, :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

Illogical :imp:

OT doesn’t work over USB… to be clear… and obvious…

I’m not on the same page as Dr. Spock in his opinion on iConnectivity.
If the manual states the host port will recognize USB class compliant devices it should do just that.
Live long and prosper.

The ‘host port’ will support class compliant MIDI devices. It will not function with (or host) class complaint audio devices. If you want to use a powered USB hub, the ‘host port’ can support up to 8 class compliant MIDI devices.

Thanks for responding Josh, but I have already read over the manual multiple times trying to solve this issue. It would be nice if iConnectivity could tell us which USB midi controllers (not with a keyboard) are recognized b the 4+? I am specifically looking for a USB foot controller to use with the 4+. Thanks again.

What I don’t understand is whay specifically a foot controller? Why a problem with just that type of device? I don’t get it.
