iBook 'Cookbook'

Almost all pro gear these days only come with a “Quick Start” and always have full user manual available as pdf download from respective websites–FYI. It’s environmentally friendly and right thing to do. A person would easily spend $5. on printer ink, quality paper, and binding with downloading the pdf in a utilitarian format. The interactive abilities of iPad, Kindle, or even Nook also keeps our studio work area free of cluttered paper all over place and so much easier to take to coffeeshop or sitting out by a stream in woods for a relaxing read!!!
@Neil:
I really like the clear and concise lay out and above all, some better clarity on things that perhaps got a bit lost in translation in original. On that note, if you have the time at some point, as aforementioned, it would be helpful for some step by step “recipes” if you will, in future updates.
If you even needed “In-App-Purchase” added to fairly compensate your time, effort and talents, I for one would have no problem doing so. However, being rather brand new to the iPad world (long military career has me finally getting back to music full time), am not sure if In-App-Purchases can be integrated within iBooks as they can be with Apps. If that is not possible, then a designation to provide voluntary donations for your efforts would also be something I would definitely support or conversely, simply increase your iBook price to $9.99…just a thought.
Thanks again for this and glad Elektron has been behind you on this. Very smart move.

Kindle is really the format to go with IMO.

I prefer buying Kindle books even on my iPad.

That being said, you can do some interesting things with the iBook format that cannot be done on Kindle…if you aren’t using those features though doesn’t matter much.

I just realized I have 2 A4 and no manuals… HA! I hate paper manuals so I figured I left them in the box, nope!

In anycase download also Neil’s PDF very useful… and the manual together things become clear.

Also I believe Elektron should have a few tutorials coming soon.

Is there a way to print this iBook? I want to add it to me Getting Started manual

Thank your for grabbing my money at iTunes, and giving here the same thing for free as pdf …

:rage:

Polyaural, sorry your dissatisfied with buying, the iBook no intent to grab anyones money an di feel there is as much value as a large coffee from starbucks in there. The iBook version isnt the same as the PDF i have been developing personally and issuing maybe free of charge but not free of personal cost. The iBook will replace this and has additional content, videos, interactive and will be the development priority. I didnt want to be unfair by removing the PDF when the iBook was released but maybe would have avoided confusion. I hope you find the iBook more usable, useful and valuable now and over time.

I personally find the iBook has brought new found clarity that the pdf just lacked.

@Neil:

When Elektron finally releases the video tutorials for A4 they reportedly needed to re-shoot, would it be possible for those Tutorials to be ported into iBook as a future update? Do not know how that would work if Elektron uses YouTube as a platform, but if possible, as well as other added content you may see useful in future?

Really, people complaining about cost of a large Starbuck’s coffee for something so portable, interactive, and easy to search within, is bordering on trite.

Thanks, Neil!

In my excitement of finding this, I downloaded before realizing my macbook is at 10.7.5, and can’t do anything with an ibook. I don’t want to “upgrade” to a newer os yet, as I’d lose functionality of a few things I need. Also- no ipad :expressionless:
Are there any programs that can translate, or at least view the contents ( maybe not interactively) ? I may try to dig out my ipod touch- but that would be way small if it works…

+1 in favor of having this (and future versions) available on Kindle.

I’m a diehard Android user now!

(And I’ll gladly pay the $5 or $6. Sheesh, I can’t believe people are whining about this.)

I bought the iBook and it is a great Manual !

Got me going through the whole Analog four with no problem and i love to be off my computer and have the ibook when i travel on my iPad on iPhone.

Makes it easy to trouble shoot or learn on the go !

A must have, and for 3,50euros. it’s about the price of a good coffee !

I have to say another thank you to everyone who bought the iBook. The response both to people buying it and to the feedback is positively overwhelming. I have taken on board all the comments and will look at prioritising what to do next. Seems like Kindle is a common request but i will have to check the logistical and contractual arrangements on that medium. Also more in depth content is another requirement of which i certainly will look to expand. Finally the embeding of videos will continue but this adds to the file size considerably and i feel i could only provide custom videos rather than any others due to copyright.

Another common request has been for versions for other hardware products. I have released the Teenage Engineering OP-1 Version and im looking at 1 or 2 others. Octatrack seems the most common request but unfortunatly i dont own one to develop the book from as yet.

One this i have to say is i cant do everything and can only work at my own pace. Unfortunatley the day job takes priority and will have to prioritise.

So hopefully this will develop and get stronger. Please keep the ideas and comments coming. It’s inspiring and creative.

Thank You
Neil

I will be reviewing an update with new content in the coming weeks. I have some ideas but wondered what people would specifically like to see added? I have decided that for now I will concentrate on content rather than porting across to iPhone, kindle, android etc, so please offer any content ideas. Thank you.

Neil

Cool to hear about an update look forward to it.

Things I’d like to see added:

-Workflow examples and basic saving functions like would be used within a project with slower close ups on the video.
-using it in poly mode on all 4 tracks with a midi controller
-how to for setting up midi controllers with different setup examples
-where to save and when to save there from start to finish on a project
-troubleshooting section
-more video footage examples - with close ups of the screen and audio added to all vids

I’d like to see more step by step guides.

+1
Even a visual step-through of using C6 and doing both O.S. updates and file management back-ups. Step-by-step of managing +Drive and anything with Multi-Map.
Love being able to take this interactive guide with me anywhere and with updates, makes this worth many cups of good coffee!

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I will take the comments into account.

For anyone interested i have also released The Maschine Studio Cookbook for NI’s Groove Studio.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/the-maschine-studio-cookbook/id837089872?ls=1&mt=11

This means i have the Analog Four, TE OP-1 and Now NI Maschine Studio Hardware covered

Neil

Most importantly where is the octatrack cookbook? I would think that would benefit most. I surely would have bought it.

great book, thanks.

Dogma, nothing i would like more than to do the Octatrack version. Problem is i don’t own one :disappointed:
Ill update the A4 version next then will look into the OT when i have enough Cash to buy one.

Shame I can’t find the original PDF anywhere, thanks to a recent burglary I have no apple devices! :frowning: But I look forward to getting the book at some point!
