Thanks! I tried to tag you but the tagging engine didn’t find you. Now it found you @t straight away.
Faders and compact are kind of at cross purposes since they take up so much room. If you have the track mutes then faders even become less of a necessity since you can set the levels and bring them in/out all in at once.
Something like the Mackie 802VLZ4 is nice because you can have muted tracks go to a submix or headphones.
For live gigs stereo in/out is overrated. Unless obvious stereo mixing is a big part of your live sound you’re better off going mono anyway. Recording is a different beast obviously.
Much obliged for this info sirs!
So it runs on USB battery, awesome! Just bought a new 20k mA battery so that should cover many hours of use. The mic input would be a great solution for any MC needs with the internal reverb eq and gate/comp!
Good also to hear that the eq’s are neutral but also not brittle like many 1st gen plugin eq’s. It is a darn shame that the HPFs on the channels require a computer to use, but luckily they can be set once and then saves as a preset.
Now if I could just find something comparable to a novation mixcontrol xl that would speak din MIDI, I’d go for it! Why oh why is the bomebox STILL not available
Been waiting for what, two years now…
Yes, I don’t trust iPad -style controls enough for live use, and wouldn’t trust the strip controls either… But that’s just my fault. With tactile controls, the kmix would have the same form factor as any other mixer.
Faderfox had really nice compact pot and fader controllers with USB & DIN MIDI…
Uh-oh. I asked about the BomeBox again and they just said it’s going to be available around august! Beyond excited right now111111
Bomebox, a coupla usb controllers and the kmix - it’s starting to look real good!
ps: thanks for the faderfox suggestions, but I prefer the form factor of the novation box
Don’t mean to rain on your party tsutek but surely when you start adding a bunch of controllers and midi boxes it just becomes more space-efficient to use a traditional analog mixer, especially since the combined price of the stuff you’re looking at is over $900? I feel like there must be a more elegant solution…
Well the thing is, The k-mix caters for all this oddball use, so I will use it in many ways. That’s what so appealing about this unit. I can use it as a portable live PA mixer or as a customizable (almost as flexible as a software solution) mix performance tool. I already have some exciting ideas on implementing a mixing system which is otherwise unavailable commercially (without attaching a computer).
All these years I have been frustrated by all the mixers that are out there. DJ mixers offer some features that I’m looking for, while mixing consoles offer other features. I have came to the conclusion that nothing what I’m looking for exists. Well now with this, that’ll no longer be the case!
Costs are manageable, since I can buy the pieces one at a time. Gear below 1k€ is not that expensive in my books.
This was posted today at Synthopia, so Windows support for the K-Mix might be happening in the end: http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2016/06/07/kmi-brings-k-mix-to-ios-windows-support-coming-next/
I’ve got to say after reading the first half of comments that a Mackie mixer is the appropriate device.
Hello,
I recently purchased a Mackie Mix8 for the purpose of blending elements (synthesizer, sampler, radio, cheap mic’s, etc.) for live/on-the-fly scenarios (going out to one or two amplifiers) and not necessarily for recording. It was an impulse buy, because of the cheap cost and it appeared capable of satisfying my relatively simple needs for a mixer. I’ve been doing more research and wondering about the applications for the pre-amps, for recording (down the road) etc. I’m also wondering if the pre-amps have any effect on the line inputs (I’m not using the XLR inputs for anything right now), does it affect the direct/line signal at all (?) – also if anybody has experience with the Mackie Mix-series, if they could provide any information regarding the performance/quality of the mixers - both positive or negative experiences… thank you!
