I just bought another Octatack

If anyone interested I made a stand suitable for 8 Octatracks…

With iPad that’s what I’m concerned tbh. The apps are amazing but they don’t have the best reliability per se.

Thanks for the reply!

Well this blew up more than I expected. I figured a little chuckle and that’d be it. I’ll try and answer a few questions I saw cruising the thread.

  1. No I don’t mind the couple of bucks I’ve lost here and there. Overall, it’s basically like renting it for a while.
  2. I absolutely hate the way it mutes audio tracks and not just the trigs. It makes doing certain live things I like to do impossible without crossfader or MIDI controller tricks. Pissed me off to no end. Still does. I’ll work around it maybe.
  3. I never felt like I used it enough to justify the cost of it, and I wanted other gear at the various times I sold it. I also figured I could always buy another one, and once I pop in my CF card, it’s like I never got rid of it.
  4. Right now, I want to use it to do sound on sound and live looping of my modular. I’ve been using the Morphagene for this, but the input noise is becoming hard to ignore.
  5. I think that I’m at a point where I will use it more in creative ways that I hadn’t previously considered or been aware of, simply due to more knowledge over the years from other gear.
  6. I think I’ll keep this one at this point. Even if I put it in a closet periodically, I’ve done this enough times to finally learn my lesson.
  7. If I do sell this one, I will probably buy another one in the future.

Same here re: OT and OP1. I don’t think I’ll ever move on from them.

Thanks for the explanation. I’ve used this method a few times myself. However, I found it to be more effective when I only changed the pitch by 1 to 3 semitones. Otherwise, the artifacts become a little too noticeable for my taste.

Regarding the mk1 vs. mk2 debate: I passed on a few mk1s over the years. But since I acquired an Analog Four mk1, I almost regret not also having an OT mk1. They are more beautiful in real life than I thought and seem a little more robust than the mk2s (without the “sticky buttons” issue). And they would make a nice pair.
