At least I think I’m talking about live sampling. I usually just use the OT as a processor or load up my pre-recorded files. However, I’m interested in getting into more live sampling and playback, but I’m still confused by the manual after all these years.
I have two different applications I am interested in exploring.
For my full live hardware set, I have samples on tracks 1-5, and thru machines on tracks 6 and 7, with track 8 as my master. I want to try the whole transition idea between songs, but I don’t understand how to live record the entire mix to fade in between one song ending on (for example) pattern A14, that transitions into the next song on pattern B01. I’ve tried watching the transition tricks videos, but my brain just isn’t making the connections to the process, for some reason.
I want to run instruments through the inputs and live sample and mangle as it’s being recorded.
In both cases, I don’t understand how to load up recorder trigs so that I can enable/disable them at will without having to manually set them up each time. I assume, too, that if I record the master out, when it plays back, it would go through the master FX a 2nd time (which wouldn’t be good, obviously), though I figure I could set up a scene to bypass them. I also would assume that I can’t play back the recorded stuff on the T8/master track and would, instead, have to free up another audio track somewhere, right? Also, that audio track would have to carry over into the next bank/part/pattern, too, yeah?
In my set, I always have one dedicated track for Resampling. Yes if you want to play back the resampled buffer, you have to dedicate a track. You can’t use your Master track.
On this track I have a oneshot record trig on step one. The track is set to record resample the master track.
Any time I want to resample I arm this oneshot record trig, by hitting the yes button. It resamples the record length I set, and stops. If I want to record again I hit yes again.
I flip the crossfader over on a specific scene that is set to silence all other tracks but having the volume up for the resample tracks (and the other way around when you move the crossfader back).
I use the arranger for changing patterns, because I can pre map scenes and bpm settings in the arranger for specific patterns. When I change to the next bank and pattern, the scene is already set that you only still listen to the resampled track while the new pattern is running in the background.
Then I can move the fader over to silence the resample and bring the volume of the rest of the tracks up
If you resample something with fx on the master tracks, yes it would run through these fx again. I don’t have any default fx on my master only fx that get active on crossfader action for performance duties
Definitely helps. Just to clarify, when setting the record trig, you go to your track that will be doing the recording (which I assume is also the track that will be doing the playback) and hit the REC1 button, then put a record trig on step 1? I always thought that would always record until you removed it, though. Have I been wrong about that the whole time? Does the YES/NO arm/disarm them so I don’t need to constantly add/remove them?

But then you press and hold function and press that trig again. It will turn into a yellow oneshot trig. This only records one cycle of your set record length and stop. You have to arm it with yes each time you want to activate sampling.
Maybe you have to press func + yes. I don’t have my OT in front of me so I might not remember correctly
This is my way of doing it in this scenario, since I find it convenient. It’s not the only correct way how to sample…
You can use oneshot trigs not only for record trigs, but for any trig. These are nice for drum fills for example (instead of the fill condition e.g.). For example you put a bunch of oneshot trigs on a snare track and they only play once when you arm them…

Edit: I think func + yes or just yes work both. If your outside of the recording grid it arms all tracks.
If you want to only arm a specific track I think you have into the recording grid (where the trig is set) and press yes/no.
Maybe there is another shortcut I don’t have in my head right now. OT is mostly muscle memory
No problem. Good luck. This kind of stuff needs a lot trial and error until it fits someone’s personal needs. I failed a few times transitioning in front of people, but you learn troubleshooting quickly then
Yeah. This is the final piece of the live set puzzle (besides Elektron fixing the damn PC issue with the Digi boxes - I shout at the sky shaking my fist!). I wish the master channel could be setup someone how to do this. Thanks, again!
To my knowledge, it’s only an issue if you use different track lengths or time divisors on the Digi and are controlling PC with the OT. It should work fine if you go the other way around.
Just a small point: afaik, any track can play back any of the recorder buffers, so you could even have multiple tracks for playback at the same time (e.g. with different pitch settings or slightly distinct trigger moments).
