I don’t visit that page at all. Maybe it’s old news. Maybe it’s just not in stock now, but will come back.
My guess is that Elektron will be manufacturing the MKII’s in black only, for the foreseeable future (just a guess, only Elektron really knows)
I just bought a gray analog four MKII (arriving Monday, I hope) for this reason - I have a strong preference for the gray finish, and I realized I’d best get one now if I want to buy new
There are plenty of gray Octatracks currently available from other retailers, but I don’t think Elektron will be making more in gray, so that might be a consideration for some folks who were on the fence about getting one…

Damn. If anyone wants to trade their black OT for my grey OT, I’m all in. I don’t dig the grey at all.
I think they should continue to offer both colors of the big boxes. I think the black looks good, but I prefer the grey ones.
Also, it is just a color, so Elektron and other companies should branch out and do more color variations. This past year the trend was to go black, which is cool, but I want to see some radical colors from all manufacturers, even if they are short runs.

For sure. Sometimes a certain colorway will resonate with people who maybe hadn’t even considered a product before, or brought new life to a product that has been on the market for a while. And really, there isn’t much to lose. You are just changing the colors. And sure, in some instances they may have to change a button or knob color as well, but that is all part of the fun.

Sounds about right, but only Elektron knows.
I think what’s great about them offering the black options years into these machines’ lives is that there’s now basically four tiers for purchasing one. for example an OT mk1 is $800-ish. grey mk2 is $1k-ish. and a black mk2 is $1200-ish. and then of course, you could buy a brand new black mk2 as well for $1500. this means more people have the opportunity to get one. and all of them are great, so this is awesome.

well I was trying to generalize to all three machines. but yes, OT has another tier that’s like $2500 or whatever insanity people are asking for the AE these days.

As soon as someone makes a Black 2.0 OT, all other OTs will be gray.

…they all come and go in batches…bringing back black, in case of the ot, was just good marketing and memorobilia charming for a machine that’s simply a classic and still unique out there…
grey WAS a nice move…once all grey batches are sold out, they gonna stick with black a little longer, since well, ot in grey is also cool…
but the rytm and a4 mk2’s in black !!!..that’s a no brainer…they gonna stick to that…
and sooner than later, all mk2’s won’t see any further new production batches…
it’s time to move on…
if they wanna stay truu to handmade in sweden, from those ot batches that needed to be outsourced already once to poland, because of another new wave of ot hype, they gonna need all hands free for assembling the syntakt for quite a while to come…next year…and plain brushed metal will be the new black…
while all retailers got mk2’s still in stock…
…and ooops…yesh…that’s a neat move to ask for that much, only because it’s the anniversary edition…but guess what…in ten years from now, u actually CAN ask for such a pricetage easily, if it’s in mint conditon and u can deliver it in the original box…
