the biggest problem with Elektron boxes becoming more mainstream (mostly with RYTM) is that you get idiots like the person that started this thread. Unless it’s a joke?

Elektron intentionally limits its gear because it strongly believes in the credo that limitation yields creativity. That’s a major philosophical point behind Elektron gear. Very open-ended in some ways but very closed off in other ways… kind of like Apple.

Use an MPC or something else if your brain is too small for a RYTM…

BTW, Overbridge is a BONUS feature at best. it wasn’t announced at the inception of RYTM… kind of just extra dessert. So, quiet down about Overbridge taking longer than normal… this is a very small company. no one forced you to buy the RYTM, you sound so unFingGrateful

You know the minute you get rid of your Rytm is the moment Elektron will release Overbridge, and some mind blowing huge update. They’re known to do that type of stuff, and really, they never disappoint.

The funny thing is that the OP is so upset over how samples playback (or don’t apparently) in what is first and foremost an ANALOGUE DRUM MACHINE. As if that whole concept is secondary to it playing samples. It’s like saying that you’re going to get rid of your oven because the little timer clock sucks!

Hint: RYTM is insanely easy to use compared to the the other Elektron boxes. MPCs are just incredibly simple compared to a RYTM…

I kind of feel sorry for Elektron at times. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t far too often. Brought it on themselves a bit with the Overbridge announcement over a year ago but only a tool would have bought a Rytm or AK/A4 primarily in aniticpation for OB.

yeah, the RYTM’s not for everyone, thank fuck for that, that’s cool, but be wary of pointing the finger when the issue may be closer to home, there are a tonne of things it could do slightly better and overbridge has little cache for me so maybe i don’t get the anger

besides, it’s not even clear what the issue is

i also don’t think the limitations to force creativity argument stacks up, i think they just fins a balance between flexibility, ui and horsepower and probably try to keep the products fairly focussed on core stuff, the price of throwing everything in the mix is that it becomes unattractive to master, getting a balance is how i think they limit things, and you have to accept and respect that - sure i often reach for a second lfo or lfo destination, but it ain’t there and it helps it be focussed as a drum machine

samples are constrained, but it ain’t rocket science either, just learn the machine and work around perceived limitations

i for one share the (unfair?) disdain thrown on the ipad, sure it’s great as a multitouch control surface (USP), but it is as soul-less an experience as i can imagine otherwise, irrespective of the shared dna across say the arturia SEM on OSX iOS, unless your iPad is hooked up 24/7 to a studio it’s just a faff and something i have a great deal of bother engaging with, so if there’s a hierarchy - it sits underneath knobby gear and a more manageable computer environment (sans touch, to which iPad can be added) - but it probably is an improvement on some gear with an awful hidden interface

not for me either, but that’s not to say it’s not for everyone else
there are a few great apps which exploit its strengths mind you
