I am AGAIN trying to scale the CV outs

and i cannot get it to work. The CV is working in reverse. It get higher as i go down the keyboard. I don’t get it. I followed the directions exactly, and it just does not work. I cannot figure this out. How did you guys get this to work on the A4.

I’m trying to just get Note 1 (c3) to play properly, the voltage is at 3.266v, and it’s outputting a rather high CV to my Atlantis. The only way to bring this down to earth is to drop the Voltage 2 down to almost 2v. This can’t be right. Voltage 2 should be 3 v higher than Voltage 1 if scaling from c3 to c6. One would think, C3=3v and C6=6v.

I’m completely lost.

This is strange. C1 should be 0V and C4 should be roundabout 3V. 3V for C1 is much too high because then you would loose being able to play higher octaves. Maybe something is wrong on the atlantis how he handles the incoming CV.

It worked perfectly prior to upgrading to the latest OS. It then went all out of whack.

This is strange. My CV works fine with my intellijel gear on the new OS – there wasn’t a need to change anything or calibrate.

You’re definitely right in that increasing pitch should have increasing CV…

If note 1’s voltage is set higher than note 2’s and note 2 is higher upthe keyboard than 1 it will scale the wrong way, imagine a graph of the scaling that you are setting.

Can op confirm he is doing this in order (e.g. no going back and adjusting note 1 after setting note 2):
Setting c3 for note 1
tuning voltage 1 to correct voltage for c3 whilst playing a c3 from the sequencer
setting c6 for note 2
tuning voltage 2 to correct voltage for c6 whilst playing a c6 from the sequencer

when you say you are struggling to set note 1 it makes me think you are trying to tune the pitches to each other - dont do that, do it individually to a reference. When both pitches sound correct on their own the curve should map them all.

Also check the oscillators of the target are set to default pitches and you have correct scaling type (one is linear the other isnt so will sound the wrong pitches).

c3 is the middle c with analog4 octave settings +0
Keep in mind that the voltage for both ref tones correlate.
the difference between these voltage make the trick.

Actually especially check you are playing the correct pitches - changing voltage 2 should not affect the pitch of the note 1 youve set. If it does you must be playing a different note, one that is on the curve rather than the two reference pitches.

Yes, i have the CV set to V/Oct. I just tried running the output of the Atlantis into Ableton with a tuner on it. I set Note 1 to C3 and tuned it to C3 playing a note from the sequencer, even though in the intructions, it says to use the Yes/Save button. I set Note 2 to C6, changed the note in the sequencer to C6, and tuned it. It’s still all messed up, and only plays in the higher registers. I’m about to go back to the old OS. This is stupid.

It doesn’t help that elektron has decided they aren’t going to use the same numbering as nearly every other device I have, my elektron devices are always off an octave when just comparing C1 to C1 on other devices…I realize they say there isn’t a standard and that’s just how they do it but it’s funny that I can go to pretty much any of my other synths and C1 is the same octave across all of them.

MIDI notes range from 0-127
C0 = 0
C1 = 12
C2 = 24
etc…

v/oct is linear, so
C0 = 0v
C1 = 1v
C2 = 2v
etc…

If you are setting C2 to 3V, you are shifting everything up one octave.

I personally have these settings and track external gear just fine:

Note 1: C0
Voltage 1: 0v
Note 2: C3
Voltage 2: 3v

You will likely have to tweak from there depending on how your external synth tracks. I haven’t tested the full range of accuracy, but that gets the job done on for several v/oct synths for me.

Just curious, why did you choose C3 was 0V? Doesn’t that shift your control up 3 octaves? Is it a Moog thing? (although my Werkstatt is fine at C0 and 0V).

I wasn’t getting the lower octaves out of the Moog. I may not be doing it correctly, but it seems to be working.

Edit: I’m wondering if it has something to do with the octave button on the SubP? Those settings may not work on other gear.

Assuming you are using CV AB for output, on the A4 CV track you have:
TUN : 0
FIN : 0
BND : 0
SLD : 0
SRC : CV

CV A is set to V/Oct
CV B is set to Gate

On the Atlantis, with nothing else plugged in, you have CV A going to the VCO v/oct input, CV B going into the Envelope gate input, and since I don’t have one I’ll assume that 2 is a good starting place to have the octave switch on the VCO.

Do you have any modulation sources going into the Atlantis that could be causing a problem? Are you using the LFO to modulate anything? S&H? Zero that out.

On the A4, do you have any of the LFOs on the CV track modulating your CV outs? Make sure that’s all zero’d out.

When that’s all set, if you have the keyboard on the A4 set in the middle (LED is in the center of the column), you should be able to get at least 1 octave playing correctly.

Just want to confirm that the OP is not alone in this, I have the exact same problem, reverse scaling and all. I haven’t had a lot of time to extensivly test it, but spent about 30 minutes one day and could absolutely not get it working.

It used to track fine and work well before the last OS update.

I have a fairly large setup with lots of CV controlled synths etc… and the A4 was definitely the part causing the problem. Connected it straight to an oscilliscope and confirmed. Unfortunately, for myself and the OP I have no solution. Emailed elektron but haven’t heard anything back yet.

Can anyone post some working settings for Korg Monotribe CV voltages too. I tried to set mind up the other night but it wasn’t having any of it. If would be nice to try again with some ballpark figures when I calibrate it.
