Hi, I am a total noob when it comes to using effect pedals. I’ve just borrowed a pedal (GFI Synesthesia) from a friend to play with and try with my Syntakt. It has multiple modulation effects (tremolo, phaser, ring mod, bit crusher, etc).
I route my Syntakt through the pedal and back into itself.
I raise the level of the input audio on the last page of the mixer (Func + LFO).
When I turn the pedal on and play my pattern - I face two problems:
I can hear that the selected effect is applied but it’s barely present. Very, very low level. Obviously, I tried turning the knobs, making sure the mix is at maximum, etc.
This pedal is mono in, stereo out. I tried routing just the left output from Syntakt into the pedal with a TS cable (and two separate TS out of the pedal into Syntakt), as well as a Y-cable with two TS outputs from Syntakt one TRS into the pedal - just to try what happens. But in both cases, the (barely noticable) effects are only present in my right ear.
…it’s a suboptimal idea to split ur main l/r outputs…and to feed them into inputs of that same device…
leave ur mainouts untouched and try to feed ur external fx pedal with the headphone out for now…
keep ur gainstaging in check…that headphone out is harwired in volumelevel to ur main outs…so where ever ur mainouts might end up, keep the inputgain low for now and adjust the mainvolume until u see enough gainlevel on that external fx pedal unit…then adjust ur gainvolume accordingly on recieving channels…
now connect ur pedal output to ur syntakt inputs and start to open them up…
but be careful, what ur about to create is a feedbackloop…
if u wanna do this in a proper way, u might wanna consider some little mixer with aux sends, that can feed adjustable amounts of ur st mainoutputs to ur pedal unit which also feeds it’s output to that mixer…this way, u keep ur stereo out untouched and can mix ur fx output accordingly to taste in paralell, since all fx use makes a huge difference if u use them as so called send fx or insert fx…
via send u add the fx signal to the original signal, while with insert fx us send ur whole mainsignal through that fx unit and all u can do is to balance/blend the original signal and the fx signal via some mix/wet/dry knob on the fx unit…
most stompboxes/fx pedal are ment to work as such insert fx…but usually they’re made for single signal like guitars and such…not for electronic groove boxes where more than just one sonic element is happening and pretty much a whole mix is taking place all at once…
so don’t expect too much from that pedal fx…if it has to phase/tremolo/crush/ring mod all ur stuff at once, in most cases, u won’t end up with reasonable results…
musically speaking…
