If one were to buy a Strymon Big Sky or something similar (effect boxes in general), how does one use it, setup-wise?
Can you only use it to affect one synth at a time, or is it possible to use some mixer magic and send the effect to all synths attached to a mixer? I’ve never really used a mixer, so I don’t know about this stuff.
That reverb sounds so good though, it would be cool to be able to use it. But if one can only use it on one synth at a time, I’m not sure it’s worth it? Then I’d rather plug it into the OT and use its Dark Reverb, even though it surely doesn’t come close to Strymon’s in terms of quality. (Alternatively plug it into the A4s inputs and use the Supervoid Reverb, which is pretty awesome.)
Buy a mixer with AUX sends (ie. practically every mixer ever made). Each mixer channel has an AUX send knob, which controls the level of the FX send. You can send a signal from every channel if you wish, at the level of your choice.
I’m sure it is utter crap compared to a Mackie or Allen & Heath or such, but still, would it work with a Strymon reverb unit? It says:
“The Behringer EURORACK UB1002 Mixer has all the right stuff for simple mixing chores: 2 mono channels with IMP inserts and phantom power, plus 4 stereo channels, a post-fader aux send, and 3-band EQs and low-cut on all mono channels. The Behringer EURORACK UB1002 is equipped with a smooth 60mm ALPS fader.”
Does that mean it would work? So that I could use the Strymon with everything connected to the mixer?)
yes that mixer has an fx loop. I have it myself. it is handy that it is so small.
So you can send multiple inputs to the mixer and then out to your fx unit (or several units in series) and bring the fx output it back into the mixer again and blend it with your dry signals.
those cheap mixers are ok, though you might find turning any knobs in production can introduce glitchey sounds. works ok if you leave it alone once you have it set-up.
Mixer FX Send → Reverb in Left
Reverb out L/R → One of the mixer stereo channels L/R
You have to “sacrifice” a stereo channel for the Effect Return since it doesn’t have any dedicated channel for that.
Put the reverb on full wet signal. Then crank up the FX Send knob (this is how much signal you send to the reverb) and the stereo channel which your reverb output goes in to (this is where the reverb will sound). Then turn up the FX knob on the channel you want reverb on. You have to balance these 3 until you find a good level.

I think I understand. Thanks a lot for the help!
