Hello all,
placed the same question in General Discussion (No response). This seems to be the better place
I am planing my new live setup with (Drummaschine), Octatrack and Analog four. What I still struggle with, is the question of how to interact with these maschines. For example, is there any benefit of using the Octatrack’s midi sequencer to play the A4 instead of using A4’s sequencer in a live performance? What are the pros and cons. Maybe it is important to mention that I really want to use the Octatrack cross fader transition trick to switch between songs.
Thank you very much for your thoughts.
I would use the A4 sequencer and add extra variations with the OT midi tracks going into the A4. For example A4 track 1 bass line OT midi track 1 going into bass line with added notes.
My current setup:
[ul]
[li]OT is the master, MIDI thru chain to the other Elektrons. OT sends program change on channel 1. Audio CC and such are set to ‘INT’.[/li]
[li]MD, MnM, A4 all set to receive program change on channel 1. All other midi input is off.[/li]
[li]MnM audio goes into the A4 ext in.[/li]
[li]A4 audio goes into OT input A/B[/li]
[li]MD audio goes into OT input C/D[/li]
[/ul]
With this, I can do real time sampling with the OT, so I could do ‘the transition trick’, among other things. I like this setup because it is so simple.
Certainly it could be extended by using some of the MIDI tracks on the OT to send MIDI to the other three. I’d just need to make sure that I don’t run out of MIDI channels.
So, with the OT and A4, you’ve got plenty of MIDI channels to play with.
@JoshEjosh and Geneoart, thank you for share your thoughts. I really appreciate
Any other users here with some ideas?
I suggest you to use the Performance channel on A4 to get control -via OT- of the Macros. The OT way to sequence, if necessary, them =)
I tried to use OT midi sequencer for A4 but A4’s internal seq is so much more capable and easy to use, especially when it comes to p-locks, so i end up using just the seq of A4.
But i think it is a good idea to use both seq’s at the same time for adding variations. But in this case you need to keep an eye o so many things, and it all starts to become too complex = less fun.
I use an OT, an A4 and an Ambika in a live situation. A4 sequences itself, OT sequences itself + the Ambika. It’s pretty easy to set up and use, even when in dark light and a bit drunk. Just practice transitions a bit beforehand and know what’s happening, so you don’t get ugly overlaps.
