How to achieve NEGATIVE DELAY on Octatrack

Hi guys,

I have recently (about 3 months ago) bought my octatrack and have been getting the hang of the basics. I have been able to generate some interesting ideas and im falling in love with the machine and im trying to get closer to the final version as possible to avoid to record track by track into ableton.

I have an issue that I can´t seam to find an answer for in any former forum posts so here goes:

Is there anyway to apply negative delay to sample playback ? Coming from ableton where i could easily apply positive or negative day to a channel ie. -6ms / +6ms i can´t find a way to do it on the OT.

For positive delay i could easily place the start point a bit behind the sample itselfso the playback would be delayed in comparisson to the trigger but how would i do the opposite (negative delay) where the sample plays a few ms before the trigger ???

Thanks in advance !

You can use microtiming but then you have to set it on every trig, there is no way to shift a whole track’s microtiming.

Maybe resample the main and shift the sampled delay where you want it.

Out of the box, there isn’t a way to do this.

Thanks for you reply im assuming this is what i was looking . I was excited to try but when I booted my OT its frozen all led lit normally but nothing responds… from what i understand this is a problem with the CF card. Guess ill have to buy a new card before i can try this and seams like i lost all projects…

You haven’t lost anything yet until you try a fix. Eject and set your card aside.
Buy a new SanDisk 64GB Extreme CompactFlash Memory Card UDMA 7 Speed Up To 120MB/s - SDCFXSB-064G-G46
Then with a card reader use a software to clone and fix your broken card. Search on youtube what’s best in 2024.
It should not matter to do this from the OT in USB mode, but why take that chance if those are important projects to you. CF card readers are cheap.

Are you above or below sea level?

USB connected to a mac ?
Can cause freezes.

all led lit normally but nothing responds

If you set CC OUT to EXT knobs don’t react, can also be the culprit depending on symtoms…

Run Test mode
Hold Func before power on
Press trig 1

Check ATA setting

Kind of possible with Swing if you set Swing trigs on all steps.
Positive delay only though (you can shift all trigs by 1 step with Func + arrows in grid rec mode and combine it with Swing).
This Swing delay can be set by ear with the Swing value, can be applied to all tracks.

Thanks for giving me hope. running test mode on the OT it said everything is ok ecxept for the ATA settings says " NO INT".

Since then I´ve tried connecting the CF card to a PC and it is not able to read it. A error comes up along the lines of " D/ not accessible, Incorrect function " . I have thought of formatting it to try and recover files after but when i click in format on the pc nothing happens

The more you access the card the less chance for a good recovery. I hope someone else reading this could help you better.

With a card reader or OT usb ?
Some OT users had their card reader pins brocken…
Anyway, try with another card as said…
