As for musical tantrums? I either take my most favorite part of the song I’m stuck on and destroy it in some way and make something g from the wreckage or I move on to a new thing/hobby etc.
It’s not worth getting all worked up about.

I have been missing the 0-coast for this. I got in a rut with it, but I got so much fun and interesting stuff out of it.

I used to do this with the intent of rewiring everything, way too often. I’ve learned it was just procrastination and that a portable mixer/recorder has eliminated that aspect of my studio practice.

Haha, yep. It’s also a good opportunity to remake the pattern from memory, but this time with a chance to improve it =D

I do this one or two times a year. Each time, I try to improve my studio (labelling, ergonomics, etc.). I think it’s a good exercise to keep you sharp about Audio and MIDI rewiring when you have a complex routing. Each time, my goal is to do it right on the first attempt.

Just remembered that Hide and Seek, one of the best and most influential recorded things and the biggest hit of her career was made by Imogen Heap after her computer crashed / lost power so she picked up her harmonizer and sang into it. So sometimes these tantrums can be channeled into something useful:

My MD just died so maybe I’ll create something amazing on something else now

Re-organized and renamed all the folders on my OT. Now I have to manually find all the sounds if I want use a project. Think I’ll just start new.

If I could understand OT then I’d be right there with you but the most I’ve ever gotten out of it is using the comb filter as an outboard effects unit

It’s happening. I won’t say where. Art imitate(s) life.

Exactly. My kids are almost all at prime tantrum age. Spending the little energy I have being frustrated about music seems unwise.

I don’t tantrum, I freeze.

Just. Let. Go.

There’s fight, flight, freeze, flop and some other forms of trauma response that knock us out of our healthy parasympathetic nervous system relaxation state

None of all that.

Sit down and go through old projects and sort. Garbage, potential, finished. Save to an external drive and keep going.
