How much for a sequencial pro one

hi guys … I might trade in my MD for a
Sequential Circuits Pro One … but how much is the pro one it worth … ?

I have seen them for near a $1000 cdn on the local Craigslist… I would not do it… So many newer analogues out now that won’t have any issues… Steer clear of the J-wire model as they have issues…

cool man thanks … they seem to sell on ebay for 2000 euro … wich is 2300 dollar i think … thanks for info!

agree with Cosmosuave however - seriously, I’d buy a DSI Pro 2

the Pro 1 is one of the most badass old synths around, I love them. You’ll want to have a good tech person available, as they may have problems, but they sound fucking awesome. I much prefer the Pro 1 to the Pro 2, but they really aren’t the same thing at all.

And depending on the condition, you’d be getting a hell of a deal.

I saw this band in Portland about a year ago called Coronation and the singer/synth player had a Pro 1, it had some of the most beautiful Arps and sweet analog sound I’ve heard coming out of a PA. But you would really have to love that sound, because there are so many analog mono’s out right now.

The j wire model is the ONLY pro one you want to buy. The other model uses a membrane keyboard and in not repairable once it breaks.
I just sold one for $1300.
Cheers.

holy cow! … so many cool answers here … the guy wanted to sell it for Eur 1950 … then kinda dropped to 1750 Euro … I would consider trading for a MD uw + drive with remaining warranty … but he wants cash on top … I think I wont do it with cash, only a 1on1 (the AR flew into my bedroom couple of days ago)

indeed - a DSI Pro 2 doesnt really sound much like an SCI Pro 1 ( though I’d bet it’ll get fairly close if you must… ) but that wasn’t really my point.

Perhaps it’s 'cos I’m in my 40s…& grew up playing all these vintage synths that are now so coveted, but to me the prices they now command is just ridiculous. Yes, the Pro 1 is a lovely sounding thing - lots of lovely modulation options, nifty little sequencer… But, ultimately you’re still playing top dollar for a very aging instrument, full of tuning, maintenance & other issues.
I think we’re very lucky right now : we’re benefiting from a ‘golden age’ - a renaissance of ‘proper’ synthesizers : I would take the modern ‘equivalent’ of most of the classics every time, without a second thought.
For the huge cost, potential unreliability, lack of modern features of every vintage Prophet 5, Minimoog or Pro 1, I give you the Prophet 6, Voyager & Pro 2, with all their greatly expanded facilities & possibilities, not to mention longevity & reliability.
Hell, if you even need a near as dammit ‘clone’, many of the ‘classics’ are now available : Tom Oberheim SEM / TVS … KARP Odyssey, MS-20 Mini… it goes on.

Of course if only the original will do, just so you’ve got the original, fair enough…but in terms of instruments to produce & play music on in the early 21st century, to me it’s a total no-brainer. But like I say, I’m maybe less romantic about many of these instruments as I grew up with them back in the day. To me the options & potential of the new instruments is far more exciting.
Just my two’penne’th : good luck in finding a good Pro 1 for a decent price : they are a lovely synth & one of my all time fave monosynths for sure.

Now, don’t get me started on spending £2200 on a TR-909 / £3k + on an 808… - have you heard a TR-8 close up, seriously! ( runs for cover :joy: )

No it does NOT come close. They are two different instruments and should be thought of that way IMHO.

I’d take the sonic balls of the Prophet1 over the Prophet2 any day.

Find a J-wire model and don’t look back

it’ll come close enough. My Evolver could get pretty close to the Pro 1 sound…

Of course they’re different instruments :but that was my point. Sorry - I just don’t get the lust for the old instruments when we’re so lucky to have such wonderful new synths being made right now, full of new possibilities, that are better featured & will have decades of trouble free operation ahead of them. Like I say - just my humble opinion.
