I’m in the same boat; strictly speaking, I don’t listen to all that much electronic music, at least compared to everything else I listen to. It’s certainly not mostly electronic, and there are plenty of genres and artists I’m just not interested in at all.

I grew up listening to nu-metal in the mid- to late-90’s, and pretty quickly got into black and death metal.

I’m still finding new metal artists and genres, even though I’m going grey and probably look like I listen to Coldplay.

Big time. I was introduced to metal as a kid in the 80s. It was mostly thrash and some pre-metal stuff (early sabbath, etc). Then as I entered my teens grunge happened (I’m from north western Washington) which broadened my horizons for heavy music. Then I found death metal and, to a lesser degree due to limited access, black metal. At the same time I got into punk and hardcore and industrial. All through this I listened to other stuff too, I’ve always been a scattered music enthusiast.
I will listen to metal until I die but I do it less and less as there seem to be fewer bands coming out that do anything fresh with it. I love some stoner/ doom but it’s popularity has kinda stunted metal’s growth for the last decade or more in that it went from an interesting experiment with form to metal for people who are too lazy to put the work into learning how to play metal and it’s all started to sound the same.
The intensity of metal and the ethos of punk got me involved in underground electronic music a couple decades ago. It seemed like a natural progression for someone who loves a genre that was in its death throes. Mutate or die.

These guys are from my town. First time i saw them they opened for Big Business and absolutely stole the show. Great live band… This video is old news now, but its a pretty fun watch. We used to drink at the same bars, back when i was doing 12 hour shifts in a restaurant and closing the bar down every night. Good guys all around. Just wanted to share the Red Fang with you folks.

The punk to techno pipeline is solid. I loved some hardcore shows and Pantera, riffs, distortion and blast beats are absolutely relevant for electro fans.

Here’s another odd connection in my brain- Prog to Trip Hop, and not always through the Dub shortcut!

Hell yea I’m a metal head! Got into stuff like Korn and Deftones in the late 90s and gradually moved more towards hardcore, sludge and post-metal over time. Bands like Converge, Neurosis, Russian Circles, Cult of Luna. Also very heavily into skramz stuff like Trainwreck, Loma Prieta, Aussitot Mort. Can’t wait until we can go to shows again.

When I got into sludge and post-metal I also started to explore post-rock and ambient. Those two combined with my early love for triphop turned me onto more electronic oriented music. Always had a preference for the atmospheric stuff over tempo and harshness when it comes to electronic music. Maybe because the bands I like are heavy enough for both genres

In middle school I went from radio accessible nu-metal to Victory Records (Earth Crisis, Snapcase, Deadguy) and then witnessed the golden era of “mathcore.” Botch, Cave In, Converge, Isis, Dillinger Escape Plan, Coalesce…so many classic, inventive albums within a few short years. After high school I ended up making ambient synth noises in an Isis/Neurosis influenced band.

I’ve periodically done metal genre explorations since then, but honestly no heavy music compares to the Hydrahead sound circa 1999-2001.

In my younger years I was definitely a metal head. My first concert was Megadeth, and my awesome sister took me to it. At the time, Korn was an opening act, and like 3rd on the roster. Dream Theater was there as well.

Tell away!!! Some of the debauchery in “in case you didn’t feel like showing up” was a bit grotty but that was most things in the 90s…All that Kaoss was when Ministry was at its creative pinnacle…imo

When it turned into just grandpa J on stage draped in the American flag it wasn’t half as interesting…

I don’t know what I was/am.

I started out with a radio. So, Madonna and Michael Jackson. My mom had Beatles, Stones, and Bob Dylan records, so I was exposed to that. Then a girlfriend got me into Depeche Mode. Then Def Leppard led to Metallica. Then Jane’s Addiction and Alice In Chains led to The Melvins and Sunn O))). Then a cousin got me into The Cure and Dead Can Dance. Then a friend got me into Killing Joke, Pitchshifter, and Godflesh. Then another friend got me into techno and electro.

I think my favorite band is Thrones:

Metal was the first genre that got my attention…as a teenager in the 80s it was all about Iron Maiden, then the first wave of thrash bands. Then I discovered Fugazi, which was a mind blowing experience.

After that, I got into hiphop, then electronic music. Sill love all of it.

Nice. Thrones is great live. I saw an early show of his in a laundry mat/ venue in seattle. He mostly played dokken covers and it was awesome! I hadn’t heard of thrones but I knew he was ex-melvins/ the whip so I thought I’d check it out.

I never have been into metal but electronic music has made me respect the various metal genres a lot more. It still isn’t something I want to listen most of the time but I get that it isn’t just noise now lol.
