Hey there,
I recently bought myself a Macbook with the focus to hook up all my gear (DT, A4, DB-01, Microfreak, Keystep 37) and use Ableton for comfortable arrangement and mastering of jams into songs.
All gear is hooked up into a DJM-850 (which I had at hand from my DJ-Setup) and this leads via USB into the Macbook.
I don’t have any practical experience with this setup yet since time was scarce recently.
But while setting this up, a few questions came up for me, which are:
How do other people (YOU!) set this up? What is the most efficient, latencyfree and/or functional way for wiring a setup like this?
Can your Ableton control your gear pieces via MIDI? If yes, how do you wire this?
What is the best way to put your jams into audio tracks in Ableton? Do you record track by track? Or do you record all tracks at once?
Do you use Overbridge for your compatible instruments? For me it would be DT and the A4, but I figured, that there is a difference in timing/latency to the other gear. (I.e. when the DT and the DB-01 are running together, the bassline is a little bit behind)
Is there a way to get around this delay?
May be, you hear it out of my questions, but I am a bit scared to start working with a DAW. I initially decided to go for DAWless, because all attempts in the past to start making music with a DAW ended in dead ends because of being overwhelmed by possibilities and the need to understand and set things up. This is a new attempt for me to get creative including a DAW. Because of this, I want to cut open questions before they stop me from making music.
Thanks in advance!
