How do you use Parts?

Hey all, I’m just working my way through the various features of my Octatrack and was wondering how and when you guys use parts? Patterns and scenes are great, so flexible and so much scope to experiment, but I’m wondering how to fully utilise the 4 parts.

I’m new to composing in the Octatrack and have previously used Ableton Live as my main composing and arranging tool so I’m trying to change the way I approach song creation. Any insights into Parts on this great instrument would be great.

I did this video a while back, it shows 1 use of Parts.

Essentially, they are like a Kit on the MD, in that you can assign a different slot to any of the 8 tracks, along with different effect settings and scene settings.

They are the heart of the OT, and without using them, you’ll quickly run into a wall where you’ll wonder what happens when you want to use a different slot for a track, but stay in the same project.
Also, because you can quickly reload a Part, they are used to create buildups and fills, really tweak your sounds out of control, and get back to a saved state with just one action. Very powerful for live performing
