Since you would be using the retrig functionality, the sample length parameter has no effect on the sound. The start point does though. Make sure slice is off, RTRG to INF, start with RLEN at about the 9 o’clock position, then slowly move the sample start position and use RLEN to modify the pitch. Once you get familiar with what your actions are doing to the sound, start applying LFOs to the parameters of interest.

Note that I’m not using these tones chromatically, mostly as color or background or just a tone to mix with other stuff.
