How Do You Handle Rytm Mutes in Dark Trinity Setup?

Hi Peeps,

I recently acquired a Rytm and handed over drum duties from OT. My friend and I are building a set and I’ve been using the OT arranger for my part, using 1 arrangement slot per track and chaining them together.

I have it set thus: Octa sends clock, transport and pattern changes to the A4 and now Rytm. The A4 is not in song mode and I manually control the mutes for this. Adding in the Rytm poses a problem as I don’t have enough hands to control mutes on both and do all the other tweaking.

I thought about using song mode on the Rytm to program mutes but it’s tricky because, on OT, I use 1 arrangement slot per track. Rytm song mode doesn’t seem to allow songs to be chained and if I make one long song on Rytm I need to manipulate the midi SPP as OT will send it back to the beginning of the song when it changes (I only have software that manipulates midi msg’s and I don’t want to take a laptop to a gig just for that and reluctant to buy hardware that does it).

I’ve read through the majority of threads on this and I think the easiest way to overcome this is to control Rytm mutes using scenes and using the OT’s midi tracks to sequence the scenes in arrangement mode.

I thought it was worth asking how other people deal with this (if any!) – maybe I am missing an obvious solution? And I’m generally just interested how other people use the dark trinity? If I was doing a solo set I would probably skip song mode and play patterns more freely.

A happy Elektron customer……sad to see that not everyone is so happy these days………but I love my boxes :sunglasses:

i don’t have an OT, but assume you could send Midi CC from OT to the desired rytm channel
Track Mute (seq mute)
94
Track Solo (seq mute)
93

or, as you say, setup scenes like mutes using the volume of each track and trigger those from OT, i think active scene is on 92, but have not personally tried this externally triggered yet.

Cheers for the input! Yeah that’s the conclusion I came too. I think scenes may be easier as I would need to utilise all 8 midi tracks to control mutes over all 8 rytm tracks…I may do this but wanted some free midi tracks to send some cc’s to the a4. It is a shame that the song modes don’t just marry up but heyho!

I mute manually, the rytm mute mode has a few nice tricks that make muting quite fun! Like the quirk which lets you lock down a mute mode change, and then execute it by pressing (FUNC, wasnt it? not at my rytm ATM)

Cool I wasn’t aware of that one! I’ll do a search for it, cheers!
I can manage manual mutes for the most part but theres some sections using octa fader to build up an trying to fling the fader back an mute a4 + rytm in a split second is impossible!!!
