How do you find your patterns? (and Feature Req for all Elektron machines)

(I’m sorry if this post is redundant, but I really couldn’t find anything related to this specific topic)

I constantly find myself miserably wandering through banks and patterns in trying to find a specific one. This can be quite time consuming and even frustrating at times. How do you work around this?

I’ve always wished there was some sort of Pattern List, a way to browse through all banks and simply select patterns by name rather than having to go one by one until finding the right location.

Mockup:

The arrow on the left could be used for filtering by name.
Categories/tags or even just being able to star certain ones (and then filter the starred patterns alone) would also be amazing, as a way to quickly find your favorite patterns (ie. you’re playing a gig and want to have display a selection of them)

I feel like this would be such a QOL improvement.
Anyone else agrees?

Plan ahead.

I work in terms of albums, or EPs. Each project is one album or ep. Therefore all the tracks for each project are contained in the project file. Easy. Since you can name patterns, no problem. (OT can’t name patterns, but can name Parts, good enough.

Put one or two song per bank
And each pattern X01 and X09 of each bank should have a meaningful name or be representative of the track.
That’s my way to find my way.

I mostly perform live with these machines, and projects tend to be constantly evolving over time.

I do name my patterns, but tbh that doesn’t necessarily helps when looking for them.

Seems a bit constricting to me to limit to two tracks per bank where I could theoretically (and also in practice, since that’s what I do) have an idea per pattern (or iterations in successive patterns.)
My approach was usually to have 4 different tracks per bank (ie. A01, A05, A09, A13) but lately I just use whatever empty spaces I have to work on new ideas when inspiration hits.

I think a “pattern playlist” view would be great. That said, I don’t see that being implemented anytime soon for old and new gear.

Otherwise, I keep notes of things. It’s still manual, it still takes a bit of time, but it’s not like going to work for 8 hours, haha. That helps immensely.

If it’s anything I’m liable to give a shit about in the future I just write it down in a notebook.

you could create a song named “favourite patterns” and add a pattern per row and save it. at least for the digiseries
