How do I sync my DT to an Electribe

Hi everyone,

I recently got myself a Digitakt and am superhappy with it. As I have had an Electribe Sampler around for a while, I thought about playing around with them together, however I have so far failed with every attempt to sync both devices.

I have got this cable and tried various setups between the two devices (e.g. Midi Out DT --> Midi In ET, Midi Out DT --> Sync In ET, Midi Out ET --> Midi In DT).
Has anyone here managed to sync these two successfully and could help me out with the method used (exact settings)?

I don’t have tried it yet but I have a note with these steps (who knows why, I do not own an Electribe :joy:):

Electribe > Global parameters
Clock mode: External MIDI
Global MIDI Ch.: [same as DT]
MIDI receive filter: Off
Finally save changes with WRITE button.

If you try it please reply so I can keep or delete the note haha

Have tried those and obviously did not succeed. However, the mistake might also be in the midi settings on my digitakt.

I am new to DAW-less jamming so I have zero experience with actually handling midi clocks.

It’s very possible - I have several DT projects where my Electribe Sampler is controlled by the DT.

I don’t have either in front of me but try using the Electribe MIDI in connector (not the Sync in) from the DT, and make sure your DT is set to CLOCK SEND (under MIDI Config). Clock mode on the Electribe should be set to External MIDI.

I use the 8 MIDI channels of the DT to control 8 of the Electribe’s sample slots. It’s a great setup and a lot of fun.

The settings for using the Digitakt as the tempo leader and the Electribe as the follower will be:

Digitakt:
SETTINGS > MIDI CONFIG > SYNC:
Activate CLOCK SEND

SETTINGS > MIDI CONFIG > PORT CONFIG:
Set OUT PORT FUNC to “MIDI”
Set OUTPUT TO to “MIDI”

Electribe Sampler
In the GLOBAL menu, set CLOCK MODE to “Auto”.

Connections:
Connect your cable from Digitakt MIDI Out to Electribe MIDI In.

The Sync port on the Electribe cannot be used for MIDI synchronization (although there are workarounds).

There is a strong possibility that even if your settings are correct, your cable is unsuitable for the task; it is difficult to determine from the product listing that you provided. The cable is not even described as a MIDI cable. Why did you buy this cable?

I strongly advise you to use the Korg MIDI cable adaptor that is supplied with new Electribes and a regular 5-pin-DIN MIDI cable to connect the two devices.

There are other workarounds if you have a computer to connect to both devices.

I don’t speak German but it seems like the cable you bought is a Type B. Korg Electribe uses a Type A (TRS to MIDI) cable. If you bought this cable, I suppose you don’t have the Original cables (2) that came with the Electribe 2 Sampler. So my guess is that you have bought the wrong cable.

Yea all signs point to wrong type of MIDI unfortunately. TRS A and TRS B have really caused an unfortunate amount of confusion.

Thanks a lot for all the responses. I indeed do not have the original korg adapter cable anymore and was honestly also not familiar with types of midi cables. I will try all settings you recommended with the right cable and will come back with the result (in case other people have the same problem)

This is the cable you need + a regular MIDI 5-Pin DIN cable.

Thanks a lot! Its quite amazing how tought it is to buy that certain type of cable on the internet. I would literally have to buy it from either US or China. Anyways, i am confident that you guys have figured the problem so I will get it fixed now :slight_smile:
