I have a BCR-2000 that I use the top 8 encoders, for Octatrack track volume.
Id like to use the other 32 encoders, to now control synth parameters on the A4.
So far Ive programmed the knobs to do stuff on the A4 independantly, and that works.
But now I want to hook it up to the Octatrack, and have that data flow through into the A4, but somehow not effect the Octatrack when sending it. But…also…the 8 volume knobs must work lol.
if the auto channel setting on A4 is unique to A4 only then it will not affect any OT params
set the Top row to OT midi channels / messages as required
set all others to the unique-to-a4 auto channel
that would affect tracks on a per selected track basis
if that’s not what you want then you have to divide up the 16 midi tracks (less the used ones like auto etc) and see what you have left
either that or get a midi thru box that maybe allows filtering on each outlet (i.e. don’t use OT thru) (may be a tall order though doable)
this is where devices with separate midi outs come into their own
if the BCR could send out NRPN messages that’s another way to stop the OT picking those up, but it won’t necessarily prevent CC’s getting to A4 although you can indeed flip between nrpn and cc, so may be fine
The trick of course is programming the BCR to do it.
Do you have BC Manager? If not, get that (http://mountainutilities.eu/bcmanager), and it’ll become much easier and open up a wealth of control over the BC (and thus all your midi needs).
there are lots of discussions along these lines, ultimately you’re looking at a midi merge box or a midi thru box to work around the fact that the master clock is not the BCR … there are no simple ways to get around this … plenty of advice on which devices to investigate
search midi thru, merge and patch and you’ll find recommendations - a midi patch bay can be very handy - something like an 8x8 with internal routing and memories can often be found s/h less than the price of a 1x4 thru
