Just choked on my beer reading this.
Well played!
I prefer to tell my significant other that my gear purchases are âinvestmentsâ and then tell a few cherrypicked tales about FS1R, TB303, VSynth, RS7000 and other price appreciation and the vibrant market.
So I call myself âan investorâ.
Gear purchases and sales are ârestructuring my portfolioâ.
My GAS is then transformed into an apparently profitable activity over the right timeframe, which might be a few decades.
I think this âi tellâŠâ deserves its own thread.
I tell at home âŠthat i need making music to relax from the stress from my job and the family always admits and says âYes my dear, you really work hard, so why not!â. Best family in the world! Regarding gear purchased, i keep the balance by also selling things. âŠ

Donât feel like a fraud telling youâre a musician.
What you may not know about scales and how to twiddle some dead wood, you gain in knowing how to synthesize unheard soundscapes, balance them, and create a complete track as musical/weird/experimental/<insert your style here> as you can/want/love.
As a guitarist for years, I have never managed to build full tracks on my own.
Now I always need electricity, but I feel like I both developed my ear and skills as a musician.
Electronic musician fits pretty well, IMO.

Nothing like some left side of brain activity to put the right side of the brain into perspective.
And vice versa.
