I bought the A4 and AR for mainly production use rather than live use…
I’m Still figuring out the best way to use them with all the different ways of integrating eg…
midi out to Elektron gear,
overbridge
Electrons int sequencer
Song mode
Chain mode
What are u all finding the most effective way of working?
I ideally want to use the elektron sequencer for the locks etc…
So I use an OT and A4 with Live. I use Live as the master and send Clock/Transport/Note data to the OT and use its Thru to send the same to my A4. I send Audio Outs back into Ableton. I then send the OT’s midi out into Ableton so I have the option of using the Elektron Sequencer in Live if I feel like it. It’s nice for conditionally triggered percussion etc and I like how everything kind of flows around in a circle. Also means I can use my push 2 to input note data over a wide range quickly as someone who is a pretty shit pianist.
If I had a Rytm like you though I’d definitely look at overbridge in order to cut down on Analog i/o with the individual outs but with only these boxes I haven’t looked too hard at it for a couple of years. It might be worth it now 2.0 is out
Yeah I ttend to input them manually into the OTs Midi tracks, add probability to taste and then just send them via MIDI into Ableton. If I have a kick on one channel in live then I just choose the corresponding MIDI input channel from the OT.
The A4 cannot send MIDI out so that just receives what’s coming thru from Ableton or is sequenced internally.
As this is mostly just for composition rather than live performance I enjoy being Ableton to route everything to everything else like this l.
Thanks man, good to hear how other people are going about things…
Unfortunately I don’t have OT to sequence in ableton…
I’m currently trying out midi in to the AR/A4 and placing probability steps on the A4/AR as well…
As a hybrid type sequence then recording tracks through overbridge and it seems to be ok…
but the midi notes from ableton take priority over the steps on the sequencer and it messes with the p locks so not sure it’s going to be the right setup yet…
Maybe I’m better off just doing it all just on the A4/AR and
just recording stems to go into ableton With the rest of the project
Honestly not having any problems with sync…
all is playing along side samples in ableton and other synths like minilogue
While using overbridge…
Was more of a work flow question rather than technical in this case
I run my elektrons into a multitrack recorder, then import the audio files into ableton for mixing etc. Overbridge could be an alternative way for doing this, but I dont get a reliable performance out of the OB2 beta yet so YMMV wrt that one.
I also often use my elektrons for retracking VST clips. So I sync my elektron manually to the live transport, and record the track in, and then replace the VST track with the recording.
Just been trying something tonight…
Simply chaining the AR to the AK and having patterns change together
with a midi cord seems to be a fun way to work.
Only have to change patterns on 1 machine makes it feel like one unit
Just doing it that way is good too.
But then you don’t get to use the sound locks, conditional trigs and parameter locks
The parameter locks didn’t work for me either when sequenced in ableton
The midi notes take preference over the elektron notes.
and trigless locks don’t work
