Hour long house/tecno liveset

’ Live’ set I played a while back. Used the Analog Four for different elements in each track, mostly controlling different paramenters of sounds. Along with Ableton Live and and APC40 for mixing and fx purposes. It’s all original compositions, some of them more refined than others.

I didn’t have the A4 for very long when I did this, so I had updated a lot of my material to have some A4 elements in it.
I want to progress towards more improvisation in the future and really use the A4 to it’s full extend in my sets, but this was the best I could do at that time. Curious to hear some opinions!

Cheers!

Hi Brad,

Really nice. Very fresh and sometimes almost jazzy. It’s very good for in my living room, but also dance floor oriented.

The more I listen to it, the more I get annoyed by the difference in sharpness between the drums and the synth. I think you can either make sharper drums or make make your synth less sharp. The combination of digital and analog sound can be very nice… but I prefer them to be more blended.

i just saw you live in Holland. Where do you live? I am from The Hague

listening now … i dig jazzier techno so i’m quite enjoying the set so far.

would be curious to know anything you can share regarding the use of your instruments – what parts were done with ableton, what was a4, etc.

I’m enjoying this, and I’m not a big “techno” fan per se so I don’t have much insight on your style. I’d like to hear more about your setup as well.

The into was my favorite part. I thought it was a nice blend. Thank you for sharing!

:+1:

Thanks for listening!

@Dewouzer, I’m living in Tilburg! Totally agree with you the blending could be better, this was my first serious attempt. I had this gig on NYE and I simply didn’t have the time to work out everything in detail. Some of the material in the set I’m developing into full tracks.

About the setup, the role of the A4 differs per section. The intro is A4, but then beat & samples come in via Ableton Live for example. There’s a tune I completely made on the A4 (except for the beat), and there’s a tune in there I had on the shelves a little longer without any A4 :frowning:
I have 8 audio tracks setup which I control via the APC40 and Live. The usual, with scenes I select. The setup inside Ableton is fairly complex, not the usual fx stuff which I generally don’t like but a lot of possibilities in filtering different tracks to create smooth transitions (which still isn’t always the case :P)

Then I have a couple of MIDI tracks that send out notes to different tracks on the A4. I have multimap setup so that the corresponding kit is automatcally selected (had a problem with using program changes, somehow it would always play 1 bar extra even in direct jump mode). Every kit has a couple of macro’s that I control while the song is playing. The structure of the tracks I used for this set didn’t go well with patterns on the A4, so I kept everything MIDI and controlled the parts/scenes I want played from within Ableton Live.

Anyway, bought a new keyboard and a slim phatty this month :D. Thinking about composing a lot of tunes strictly on the A4 and with the slim phatty to get my liveset more towards improvisation. With overbridge coming I’m seeing a lot of new possibilities 8)
