Home stereo system, which one's are out there?

Rega amps are pretty great. You can get models from the 90s like the Elex or Mira that are audiophile grade for under $300.

I love old Klipsch speakers, which you can often snag locally from a boomer who is going all bluetooth.

I had a pair of Sonos speakers in one room and I eventually just got rid of them because interacting with them was so fucking annoying. They sounded great, and if I could have taken them off the network and ran a cable into them, I’d still be using them, but ugh.

I had a few midpriced systems for a while and then had a killer period correct early 80s KEF+Yamaha system for a bit, it was fun, even if room treatment were a pain and sitting in the sweet spot felt restrictive.

Then on a lark I tried a Sonos Play 5 and now Sonos is all I have and probably all I will ever have (plus a few HomePods for smart speaker duties and reinforcement).

I’m sure a critical listening system can be put together to thrash a Sonos system (though if you snag them on sale, the performance for the dollar is pretty good) but it’s just super easy to use, easy to place, easy to room correct, and it sounds better than I thought it would.

So much so I went with a Sonos HT set up and it’s pretty painless (Arc soundbar and sub (a pair of 1s as surrounds for now, will replace with Era 300s when the renovations are done).

Being able to automate so much of it and intermeshing with the portable speakers is all part of what makes it feel good to use. It’s a comfortable ecosystem with a minimum of fuss on my part. I expect if one used a voice assistant the speakers supported they’d like them even better, but I leave that to HomeKit for now.

Just got a Sonos Move 2 in the house. It sounds very good and you can move it around the house. The Move 2 has a Stereo sound now.

im thinking about 500 euros but a bit more or a bit less is fine. No more than 1000.

I think preferably I’d have a all in one unit like you suggested but I like the idea of having single speakers as well

I’d be open for both to be honest. But I would prefer if I would use my iPod (aux) or my iPad as the the idea of the system is to break away from my phone a bit.

Thanks will look into that! the system is mostly for the whole room with maybe some specific speakers for the tv. I havent decided yet.

in general, music listening > watching TV

Looks interesting! look into that, tho I don’t play my records that often.

hmm yeah, your the second one recommending this. Might be a good solution. Thanks!

One more note on Atmos. In my opinion it is very cool and not one of those gimmick technologies that come and go. Just keep in mind that the best performance is from actual in-ceiling speakers. I do not recommend the cones that advertise Atmos through 45 degree angle bouncing the signal down to the listener.

So if you can’t do it just opt for 5.1 surround
