I started with a new project from a template I made with one saved part. I was using the MIDI sequencer only and painstakingly set up 24 random LFOs outputting CCs to a hardware synth from all 8 MIDI tracks. It sounded amazing, I saved the project, and wanted to make a variation to tweak the lfos and get something different going.
So how to copy all of the CC settings from 8 MIDI tracks into a new bank? I thought I read that you can copy and paste all of the settings from any page but I couldn’t figure that out. Then I thought to copy the bank but I couldn’t figure out how to do that either. So I decided maybe I had to copy the part. I copied it, went to bank 2 pattern 1, pasted the part, and everything was lost. Switched back to bank 1 pattern 1 and also everything was lost.
I remembered that I had saved the project when it was good so I simply reloaded and still everything was lost! So confusing.
So what I’m assuming is that all of the settings of the MIDI pages are saved with parts. But because I already had a saved part in my template and I hadn’t explicitly saved the modified part, it lost everything I did once I changed banks?
Also why does the OT treat CCs like they’re so dangerous? I’ve used them before but had to read the manual again to figure out how to enable them. Why not just turn up the knob? I remembered that I had to press the knob which was already weird, but no you have to function press the knob? This is kind of just a rant but I’m also genuinely curious why they would make MIDI CC output so difficult to enable. Is there any genuinely good reason why turning up the CC is buried behind a function + press encoder rather than just turning up the knob?
I think it’s because if they are ON by default, every new Part would just send CC 0 for all CCs. That would be hella confusing if, for example your device reacts to CC 7 (Volume).
Also, yes, the MIDI settings are saved per part. Parts are copy/pateable too. So that way you can save the subtle changes you’ve mentioned.
p.s. your idea of setting random LFOs EVERYWHEREto one device sounds wicked. I love it!
I guess that makes sense but they could just be set to 0 and turned on with a knob, or turn on by pressing yes. It’s just the function + encoder press which baffles me since it’s the only function I’ve found in the OT that requires that.
I admit that MIDI on the OT did take a bit of getting used used to for me as well.
But I’m still amazed that they managed to put that much functionally into that machine, with such a sense of coherence and logic. Because despite its reputation, I think it’s really easy to use once you get the hang of it.
That’s normal : you reloaded previous part saved with the project, not the part you saved after. I don’t save parts, only project (parts parameters included), so I don’t have this problem, much simpler.
If you save parts and project, everytime you save the part, you have to save the project after, otherwise you’ll reload an older saved part with the project.
I don’t know what you did when you “copied” the part, but you should have reloaded the saved part before reloading the project : it reloaded an older part.
Possible with the file manager.
Easier with a computer.
