I liked your looping style the most. You had a good blend when switching themes. Something I’m taking notes from to aspire to. Drums were nice and tight.
2nd Dark protocol
It felt like an extension of « the unseen » and funcrusher plus vibes too. Liking the scratching.
3rd Madlib meets dirty
The drum switching along with the themes was great. It felt like I was blunted and switching from different topics over and over
Rapworld
That intro voice loop and basic beat were good. I think the looping in of other elements made me think I was moving around d a radio dial looking for underground HipHop on college radio and jazz on the next few stations.
Just Try
You had a nice dark feel to your sound. It’s good. I was limited to three picks but you were one of the finalists
The Human Experience
It definitely gives me the David Axelrod « Songs of Experience « album vibes. The little sprinkle of jazz here and there.
Beat Tape 12
Felt like Primo on the first beat . Favorite joint out of the bunch
Best Beat
Beat Tape 12. First beat.
Beat Tape 13. Last beat, that’s how you close a sale. Was that all live synth playing ?
Beat Tape 18. Last half. Interesting sample choices you got there.
I might’ve misunderstood but I think these are your votes and honorable mentions for the best full beattape right? You can vote for best individual beat as well
Don’t hold it against me if I don’t leave any comments, but it’s been several days since I made my ranking and I haven’t had time to post until now, so I don’t remember everything clearly.
I have to say that’s a lot of beats to keep track of! Anyway, I listened to everything closely and my ranking was done very seriously, rest assured
3. “From the Angels to the Saints” (Beat @ 1:12) — #12
1 pt
… Easy … Love the swagger on this one.
2. “Winter in America” (Beat @ 3:00) — #9
2 pts
An incredible beat to a great tape that expresses the theme so strongly.
1. “Blunted in L.A.” (Intro beat + transition) — #4
3 pts
I just really love this beat — those electric guitars hit perfectly. The prank call had me laughing the first time around, too.
Best Tape
3. “The Gambling Bug” — #16
1 pt
The theme had me scratching my head a bit (is this a cry for help?), but it was consistent throughout, and the beats were very musical.
2. “Da Science” — #7
2 pts
Very strong from start to finish. Beat scientist at play.
1. “Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” — #5
3 pts
Quoting my girlfriend here: “Sounds like the person who made this flips beats like pancakes.” Enough said.
Honorable Mentions
#1 – Especially liked the beat at 2:50 #2 – Loved the dark, twisted theme throughout #3 – Really appreciated the encouraging theme throughout #6 – Great video game energy at 2:15 #8 – The beatboxing with the synth chords in the intro was a nice touch #10 – Relaxed vibe in the intro beat was smooth #11 – Liked the avant-garde edge #13 – Strong reggae influence #14 – The stuttered beat at 0:43 stood out #15 – Clever concept, very artistic #17 – The Sinatra theme works well; the beats match his larger-than-life persona #18 – Fun cartoon theme throughout #19 – Loved the experimental sparsity and live feel
Of 2026?! I’ve listened through like 5 times and I have no idea what I like, great job @everyone and thanks again to @Sleepyhead for wrangling all this together. You are ambitious, to say the least!
Incredible stuff all around, picking favorites is too hard! I’m trying to spread the love as much as possible with my votes, but every tape was a winner in my book.
Best Tape:
3 pts - Tape #2 “Dark Protocol”
2 pts - Tape #16 “The Gambling Bug”
1 pt - Tape #5 “The adventures of Sherlock Holmes”
I’m gonna need to save this playlist for future listening! Quality was through the roof this time around, fantastic job everyone. My top picks kept changing, but I need to commit to some rankings before the voting window closes so here we go:
Honorable Mention:
Tape 4: I think you nailed the spirit of the mission brief with that extended phone call outro - felt like I was watching adult swim. Loved it!
Best Overall Tapes: 3pts—Tape 16. The Gambling Bug: Second most cohesive theme, top music and music direction—smooth movement between beats and story beats. The bit at 3:50 might be my favorite of the whole bunch.
2 pts—Tape 15. Chop the Rich: Also really good, probably the most cohesive theme and synthesis of different sources. Concept tied everything together into one complete piece of music. Good individual beats, smooth feel and well organized. Transitions and ending not quite as smooth as 16 or this might’ve taken 1st place.
1pt—Tape 7. Da Science: Some of the best music, smooth transitions. Clear theme. That first beat is killer.
Shortlist Tape 18. Pirates of the Adriatic: Lots of good stuff in here. Especially the loping beat at 4:00. Just too many other tapes for it to place.
I also really liked the sample selection on Tape 13.
Best individual beats: 3pts—Tape 5:2-4: Great use of effects and creating spaces. Transitions really guide you from one scene to the next. Maybe my favorite straight run of beats in the playlist.
2pts—Tape 9:2 (and 3): Natural feel, reminds me of the playground after school. Very different beats that still feel like they belong together.
1 pt—Tape 16 @ 3:50, as mentioned above.
Shortlist: 12:1 Kind of a JJDOOM vibe. 7:1 and honestly throughout. Lots of good beats in there.
When I said I’ll have a few drinks Friday night and vote, what I really meant was i’ll have a couple of drinks and immediately fall asleep.
Funny enough if I had voted yesterday it would have been slightly different because I’ve tweaked it differently today, and if you ask me next week it’ll probably be different again, every entry was excellent.
Tape
1st 3 points… Da Science.
I’d play this all day long, kind of beats i seek to listen to anyway, fantastic stuff.
2nd: 2 points… Winter in America.
Every beat is great, the upfront nature of the drum breaks are brilliant mastering wise
3rd: 1 point… Dark protocol
Another nice set of beats, great mood throughout.
From the Angels to the saints an absolute honourable mention.
The Gamling Bug & Sinatra speaks too and everyone else.
Beat
It’s tricky to pinpoint which beats on a timestamp, i was just moving beattape titles up in order as I preferred whatever beat and this is what I ended up with.
3 points… Da science
2 points… Madlib meets dirty Bob
1 point…. Winter in America
