Historically, only those who submitted a beat have been allowed to vote. I’m open to including others, but it’s up to you all! (I didn’t submit a beat).
Didn’t expect this much quality, seriously. Given the level of the contest, maybe I should have tried harder.
Beat #4 – The most esoteric of the bunch. If I had to pick a soundtrack for an LSD trip, this would be it. Now I want a whole album that sounds like this. (Vote: 3rd)
Beat #7 – Creepy, dark, straight-up 90s Cypress Hill vibes. I’ve played it on loop for 1 hour. This track desperately needs vinyl crackles in background. (Vote: 2nd)
Beat #8 – The Bomb! If I were a rapper, this is the beat I’d grab for my rhymes. (Vote: 1st)
I’m positive with the voting open to anyone who feels like jumping in, even if they didn’t upload anything. Why not? Actually, besides 3, 2, and 1, I’d also add a nice negative vote: –1, so even the professional haters can join the party. We’re not scared of criticism, we’re inclusive junkies
If I make boom bap, it always ends up with this vibe, I love it too much.
But I should get out of my comfort zone, I can’t wait to hear what others have done !
In my experience, not everyone in here produces music. I know of various people who buy gear, follow audio forums, build their own studio setup, but don’t play. I assure you that they do exist and they are the ones who are the most pedantic in internet forums: they are very knowledgeable and love lecture people when it comes to performances and tech specs, they can tell you the day and time when a new synth will be released because they have it in pre-order and they have already been one hour on the phone with Sweetwater’s sales rep. Sure, we’re all a bit nerd like that in here, but when the end goal isn’t actually making music, it all just feels like wasted energy.
Don’t ask me why they do that because I don’t know: maybe they just like to collect gear, maybe they like to take selfies for Insta… I don’t know. I suspect it’s an obsessive compulsive disorder
1: i dig the use of vocals in here, same with the guitar sample. gives it a stoney, trippy vibe.
2: nice and moody beat, my kinda heavy bass. punchy and crunchy
3: this beat is a party! feels like it should be the soundtrack to a retrospective documentary on a funky party scene.
4: quick and high energy! digging the short simple chops
5: punchy and groovy drums, i feel like i would like this more if the melodic components were louder in the mix, i find myself in this situation with my own tracks more often than not
6: this gives me Doom vibes, feels like it could be an interlude, just needs some old marvel cartoon visuals
7: smoooth, laid back smoking room music. curren$y is counting his money to this one
8: final boss of the playlist, undeniable! total banger through and through, the horns are hard, as is the flute. ballin
