Hi everyone, after finally having some quality time (and I’m still scratching the surface…) with my Rytm I’ve come across some interesting features from experimentation and random button combinations that I can’t find documented in the manual. Maybe these are out there already but I haven’t looked. These features seem intentional and “hidden”, but very useful! I thought it would be a great idea to share as the Rytm is probably full of these easter eggs just waiting to be found. Please share yours too!
1. Mute pads using performance mode
While holding a pad or multiple pads that are playing, enter performance mode and let go, you’ll find the pads are now muted!
2. Hold the setting of performance pressure indefinitely
Simply hold any number of pads and while still holding them exit performance mode. The last setting will stay held until the next time you enter performance mode and press the pad again!
3. Latching multiple mutes and executing mute/unmute later during other tasks
If that makes sense… well you’ll need to try it. Basically to do this when you are in mute mode you start by holding function, but before you hit any pads hit the tempo button once and then hit your pads next, you’ll see the ones you press all go blue as if being setup for multiple mutings but when you let go of function they will stay latched until you press function again. This is useful for setting up a mute and staying muted while switching to a different pattern, because once the pattern switches, sounds will stay muted until you press function again!
Hope this helps, hope to see other useful tricks posted by other users!
Basically because it’s an unexpected interaction, it’s essentially a quirk or bug in my book. You can maintain mutes across patterns anyway and it’s no hardship to unmute a few pads simultaneously or hit fn (&select)again, so the functionality is essentially there, no big deal if they don’t fix it but it does point to other potential UI issues. Not intentional at all.
No 2 is intended behaviour, not sure why it wouldn’t be in the manual either
No 1 is not as described, in my view, you are basically locking a sustained low vel trig, the pads seem unresponsive at low vel as they are doing a few things, you can press a pad and the trigs will still sound under that, or if you tap/press slightly harder you engage the trig and the underlying trigs are lower priority, ie muted. So by getting this state of a sustaining a track muting note and switching modes you are just sustaining that trig. Again a quirk and in my view an oversight or bug, but definitely not an undisclosed feature, no chance.
Not sure wether this is in the manual but it helped me a lot:
Load Samples to the Project RAM directly from the Sample Page:
When selecting a sample, highlight an empty slot and press Function + Yes. The +Drive Sample Directory will open. To load a sample to the next vacant slot, simply press Yes.
i also found max for live patch lets you assign 8 midi cc great for the apc40 http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=54 making it very easy to control the performance page or any other parameters…
might be completely redundant with the over bridge though : )
i am not sure that this has not been in the forum before but in case you guys never tried that: press retrig + desired pad and then simultaneously press mute OR chromatic OR scene OR perf button . now you can free up four hands -now you get a latched retrigger mode. the retrigger menu will be still open and you can mess with the settings. i found this useful in the situation when you have your desired pad amp menu volume settings all the way down, and you can turn on the latched retrigger mode on that silenced track and then increase a volume of the track on the amp page (the retrigger menu hides the track volume) to get a typical fade out speed up dance music effect.
update: working also without retrigger button pressed, just press and hold a pad and swith to any mode buttons - latched trigger mode is now activated
