Hi Elektronauts! : )

Hey 'nauts, just wanted to make a thread to introduce myself, hope that’s alright.

My name is Tom and having lurked a few years, I figured it was about time I signed up for an account and joined in. Before I continue, I’d just like to thank everyone who contributes here, both for your expertise and for the laid back nature of this community. Whether it’s finding out how to change the internal battery of my Machinedrum or having a laugh at the music memes, this forum has been a blessing.

I started writing music using Reason circa 2003, and it was a huge part of my life for many years. If there are any old Reason users here, you may be familiar with my work as I contributed to the factory libraries of various versions of Reason, Rack Extensions like Complex-1, and released a number of commercial Reason ReFills which are now freely available.

Throughout the 2000s I used Reason, ReBirth and the Korg DS-10 on Nintendo DS, before getting into hardware with the release of the Korg Monotribes in 2011, which I paired with an MFB-503 and a Boss RE-20 to record spacey acid. Gradually over the course of the 2010s I moved further into working out of the box, adding some Volcas to my setup before picking up a Digitakt in 2017. The Elektron workflow had me hooked immediately and I just absolutely fell in love with the combination of tactile control and top notch sound. I’ve since sold on the Volcas and now use handful of Elektron machines and analog boxes, as well as a Dirtywave M8. I like small, self-contained setups, which I swap around whenever I feel like a change.

I mostly make drones, acid, ambient techno and jungle, though I like to mix things up and occasionally record acoustic stuff from time to time. I’ve never released any music commercially and I’m very much a long-time amateur, I write because I love to write and making stuff makes me happy. If you’re interested to hear something, here’s a downtempo collaborative album recorded with my pal Adam using an Ocatrack and a few Volcas, we tracked it on a Zoom L-12 and he mixed it in Reason. Outside of music I’m a keen photographer and just generally love being outdoors. I’ll stop rambling there but I’m glad to finally participate!

Enjoyed the intro story (And the music!)
With your experience I’m sure you will make lots of great contributions.

I’m a relative forum n00b myself and I’ve found it a really friendly environment to be involved with.

Thank you! And yes in the time I’ve spent here before signing up it’s struck me as a really friendly and patient place, it’s a testament to this community that this forum is thriving at a time when forums generally are falling out of fashion compared to social media or Discord servers (which are good too, just different).

Wasn’t sure if it was a good idea but judging by the lovely welcome it seems to have been fine! Having visited for years, the thought of recognising regulars whilst being a total stranger was kinda odd, just felt it would just be nice to say hello first
