Hey y’all, I bought a used Digitakt. The main tuning knob A is not working properly at all. The number is wobbling all over the place, when I try to tune it up it goes down and keeps getting lower. Anyone run across this before or know of a fix?
I’ve seen this documented in the bugs thread and a few other places on this site. Seems like more than one encoder may be impacted since in your video I saw the sample select window pop up at one point.
All you can really do right now is take off the encoder knob caps and use a flashlight to look at the actual encoder shafts down to where they meet the bushing below the deck of the digitakt face panel. When you shine a light, you should be able to see if there’s anything there even with the face panel still on.
If there is some hair or fuzz you need to carefully try and free it then remove it and then test for improvement. Turning it a bunch of times at that point might help, but if there is nothing which is visibly on or wrapped around the encoder shaft, then you may need to replace the encoders.
I’d advise extreme caution with using cleaning products or contact cleaner on the encoders themselves, probably won’t help and even if it does could cause a wobbly feel and eventual failure. You could try a bit of something like Deoxit fader lube, but I wouldn’t use the other deoxit cleaners on an encoder because some are pretty aggressive.
Encoders are cheap to buy the part but you or someone else would need to be proficient with soldering to be able to confidently replace them. The part is like $4 from elektron support, but hopefully you can just clean them and it will improve.
Thanks a lot. Yeah I don’t trust myself with these kind of things at all so many can find a synth repair shop that could check it out. I think I may have accidentally bumped encoder D cuz that seems to be working properly . I got the Digitakt used for very cheap so hopefully won’t be too bad to replace the encoder if I have to. Appreciate the response .
No problem. Even if you have to replace it, the part is super cheap, so if you can find someone to do the work cheap then it won’t be too bad at all I don’t think. Just make sure they know what they’re doing and you can always buy the part from elektron support ahead of time and just give it to the tech to install.
