Hello All,
Trying to get this set up to work DAW less, overbridge running on imac for each device.
I want to connect Keystep midi to a4 midi channel 1-4 then using thru send midi ch5-8 to DN & 9-16 to DT.
Whilst using A4 as master so I can utilize song mode.
but
I can only utilize song mode if using A4 midi out not thru. so that doesn’t work.
I can set up through DT first and then using thru to DN & A4 send my keystep notes and record but I cannot then start sync all devices to play pattern at same time. and no song mode.
Am I going to HAVE to use Abelton or Logic and sync and send midi this way?
What am I doing wrong or not understanding?
Any advice appreciated or a pointer to correct thread.
cheers
L
Assuming I’m reading what you want to do right, a MIDI Merge box might help. Something like this.
KeyStep into A4, A4 Out and Thru into the Merge box, output of Merge box into DT, thru to DN.
I’m not 100% familiar with the gear in question but that seems like it would work to me.

One major misconception of MIDI thru is that it’s not just an output. It only send data if there is data coming into MIDI in. It’s a mirror essentially. The reason why song mode doesn’t work unless on MIDI out is because thru is sending data from keystep, not A4.
MIDI merge box mentioned above could work but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to sync all if you went KS out to DT in, DT out to DN in, DN thru to A4.
You could then use the MIDI auto channel to play DN and A4 if you setup some midi channels on DT to send to their respective channels. Also set DT to send clock.
