HELP! Trouble recording Juno 106 midi in live recording mode

Hey Elektronauts, I’m hoping someone can help me. I have my newly acquired a Juno 106 connected to my Digitakt through midi in/out. I have the auto channel set to channel 9 (so as to avoid triggering any of the 1-8 audio tracks) on the Digitakt, I have my Juno 106 set to transmit and receive on channel 9. I am able to trigger the 106 through the Digitakt as well as change programs, pitch bend & mod. When I play a note on the 106 my midi track on channel 9 lights up in response to my playing of the external midi instrument, yet the Digitakt does not record any data of me playing the Juno 106 in live record mode? Let’s say I make track 8 the active track which has a hi hat sample loaded onto it. Using the 106 it correctly pitches the hi hat sample according to which key on the 106 I press but it too will not record any notes in live record mode. What am I missing?

Channel 14 is auto channel. If you set your Juno to ch 14 it will play whatever the selected track is.

I know it’s the auto channel. You can set the auto channel to whatever you want, I’ve tried it on all of them. If I set the auto channel to 14 and I set my Juno 106 to send and and receive on midi channel 14 and start playing notes on the 106, whichever track that I have active on the Digitakt responds. The key lights up with the same timing as the notes I’m playing on the external midi instrument so clearly the Digitakt is receiving the midi signal. But the keyboard on the trig page of a midi track does not respond and when I try to live record midi note data from the 106 to the Digitakt it does not work. Now I can step or live record using the Digitakt to the Juno 106, just not the Juno to Digitakt. I’d like to record chords and easily record note data using the 106.
