New to the octatrack and having issues with the outputs which seem staticky and lots of noise floor and generally an inconsistent signal. The rec 1 and rec 2 lights are also constantly indicating there is a signal when nothing is input to those channels. I’m wondering if these are known issues or if i potentially got a lemon? Brand new MKII purchased just 3 months ago. Almost considering swapping for a digitakt for the more modern build hopefully cleaner signal but not sure if this would be wise
What was the response to your support ticket?
I have the mk1 and couldn’t dream of giving it up. I got one of the first digitakts when they were first released but sold it. I will be getting another one soon bc I loved how fast the workflow was. I did use it with my octatrack for a brief period of time but I was still new to octatrack at the time so I wasn’t aware of the potential it held.
In my opinion, I would say it’s worth sending your mk2 back for repair or swap and adding a digitakt to it eventually. If you put the time in to learn the octatrack the rewards are endless. It is much different in what it’s capable of doing when comparing it to the digitakt. Both have strengths and weaknesses that the other picks up.
The only overlap or similarity is the fact they both can sample incoming audio. How they handle everything after that is their own way.
Good luck with either way you go.
What @whikidazz said completely
Depends on what you want out of the octatrack.it as a lot more mangling options than digitakt and 3 lfos which make a big difference. It just takes a lot if time to find your way around the octatrack.at 1st it’s like being a kid in a sweet shop,so many options.me personally I would stick with the ot. It’s a beast when you start getting used to it.
What o/s are you on? The lights being on thing is a known issue - mine still does it a little from time to time but there is no actual signal to trigger it - ie. it happens with nothing plugged in! It doesn’t bother me at all but if you are getting static and noise then obviously it’s something a little deeper.
As for OT2 vs DT - it’s a tough one. I’ve owned both, now OT only. Build quality experience - OT edges it. Had no problems with buttons like I did with a few on the DT.
Both together is very tempting. I found the DT a dream for taking any sample and turning it into leads/bass sounds. Def harder on the OT for me. But my current favoured approach is slice and dicing long samples from old vinyl which the OT excels at.
I’d get your OT fixed and give it some more time before jumping ship. You will get instant gratification out of a DT but the OT has the legs to carry you further.
