Help req : midi thru box

hi guys … some time ago I had no problems because I didnt care about syncing ext gear with ableton … midi chain was enough …

now I have 1 ext midi keyboard to play A4+MM and also require to sync the whole family with ableton …

back in the day I used my Sherman Filterbank 2, and it’s pretty midi in, out plus 3 thru

now I want to get rid of the FB2 (collects dust), and long for a new midi thing, especially I want to be able to alwas sync the shit out of ableton, midi keyb, MM, A4, MD and OT … without having to power all machines on to make the midi chain work …

why cant we just split each midi cable into several new ones?

all the midi thru boxes out there are imo too expensive, even second hand ones !.. grrr gumpy angry not yet old me!

request:

30 euro for midi thru thing to hook 5 (maybe 6 things up) … can somebody please built it for me?

this looks handy… http://www.ebay.de/itm/Philip-Rees-V3-Midi-Thru-Unit-x-3-Three-units-for-sale-BIN-/271804658597?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f48d1f3a5 … hate the shipping costs to germany :frowning:

I like Midi Solutions. I don’t know if it’s too expensive or how shipping to Germany is, but it’s simple, quality stuff and it’s midi powered so you don’t need a power supply.

I use the quadra thru with lots of Elektron gear and other synths.

Kentons are rock-solid:

Got me an EricaSynth Trough box, 8 x MIDI out for ybout 100 EUR, rock solid (the day will come, when the amount of OUTs is to little!):

hi guys, thanks for the info ! … would really like a midi thru box with external power supply… I am just pessimisstic here, I have to admit …

good to hear Lymtronics that you already use the midi quatry with elektron gear … so they seem to send out additional voltage with the midi info … (few bad reviews online about that)

still I think it is too expensive … (grumpy frugal me, sorry)

the Erica Synths solution looks REALLY nice !!! … but another 100 euro for this … jeeee …

but it is a very nice box!

thanks again!

this is a totally underrated post.
midi solutions boxes are top notch. I have 2 quadra thru and the t8 for when things get fancy. They make great quality items that are pretty durable. Chekc them out

I had Philipp Rees V3 for several years and it always worked like a charm on the same single 9V battery.
(come to think of it: it’s still around somewhere … have to dig …)

Personally, I’d recommend you look for an emagic AMT8 on ebay and alike. They got rock solid timing. And you basically have a 8x8 MIDI patchbay, so plenty of options, i.e. Ableton controlling + clock, Ableton clock + MIDI keyboard controlling etc.

Otherwise, rely on Kenton or MIDI Solution.

I can second the Quadra thru. No problems with it. There is no problem at all with the way it is powered using the midi cables. It is completely worth the price.

hey, thanks all for chiming in … maybe there is no cheap way around for me :frowning:

I would go straight to Kenton due to the Power supply. One plug more, but more routing flexibility because not all devices send power via Midi. Just purchased a Kenton merger to replace a Midi Solutions merger. However, the Kentons have sharper edges so store them separately.
