Help: Midi Keyboard double triggering?

Hello all,
Octatrack study continues. This week I have connected a midi keyboard/controller, and have things set up… except for one issue that I can’t figure out.

I have the global channel set to channel 10 on the OT. My Keyboard is therefor sending on channel 10. When I live record the keyboard send both an off and an on message, and this causes two trigs to be recorded for each note I play. Has anyone experienced this before? Is this common behaviour, or is it the result of my keyboard (Korg NanoStudio) sending midi off and on messages?

Sadly I don’t have another keyboard to test with.

Any advice would be appreciated, especially if it is just a setting I am missing somewhere.

Weird. So if you press and release 1 note, you record 2 trigs?
Could you test your keyboard with a computer with midi monitor to check what is its note off message.
AFAIK OT can receive Notes OFF or Notes On with velocity 0 instead of Note OFF.

I think it is the keyboard as I tried sending midi form my iPad and it didn’t double trigger.
It seems that the keyboard is giving a note off of 64 and a note on of 80.
I need to check the settings of the controller to see if I can set it to 0.

Thanks for pointing out the note off value might be the culprit.

Tested. Apparently Note Off velocity value is not a problem.

Just to be clear : there are 2 common types of Notes Off :

  • Note Off messages, any velocity
  • Note On messages, with velocity 0

Octatrack receive both, but send only Note On velocity 0 as Note Off.
