Help me get started with the OT

I recently got myself an Octatrack to pair with my Rytm and I need help to get started. I have two questions:

  • Can I sum two tracks and then make some transition trick on that? I have the main AR outs coming in OT A and B and BD1 from the Rytm coming into OT C. I want to process both separately within the OT, then merge the signals. I want then to be able to switch between this signal and a 4 bar recorded loop of this signal using the crossfader. How would you do that? What machine should I use?

  • What is the best way to organize my patterns on the OT to match my AR? I am using one pattern per track for my live set on the AR. I have currently more than 16 patterns… Would you also use A01, A02, A03 and so on on the OT or is there a better way to organize patterns?

For question 1, if you want to process both separately, you can use 2 THRU machines, send them to CUE, record CUE with a track recorder with rec trigs, and play its recording with a FLEX.

Question 2, I’d send Prog Changes from OT to sync patterns.

Sounds like you’re trying to transition between tracks on the OT. There’s something called the Transition Trick. It’ll take a while to get your head round it but here’s a few threads to start reading: https://www.elektronauts.com/search?q=Transition%20trick

I can’t help you with AR <-> OT integration as I don’t have an AR.

Hope that helps.
