F**k it, neutron wins…
Thanks all
I’ve gone to work on a few hours sleep many times because of the GAS.
They’re two very different synths. The Neutron requires you to design your own sounds and lacks the ability to store them, it also forces you to learn modular routing which is why I haven’t bought one yet, haven’t ventured down that road quite yet although I do think the Neutron is awesome. I have a SH-01A and it’s probably one of the best Boutiques because of how capable it is. It does everything from acid-y basslines to polysynth and drum sounds. Hit up YouTube for Ultimate Patches SH-01A patches, they’re insane. I say get the SH.
it does not. You can use it without patching at all. Of course it becomes a lot more versatile if you use the patch points
I guess it’s my own fault, I should’ve assumed there were people who take everything they read literally. I should’ve broken it down for you folks. “To use the Neutron to it’s it’s full potential, you need to learn how to route a modular synth, otherwise it’s lame”.
As someone who’s never played with a modular before… Isn’t it pretty straight forward? Patch LFO to OSC, etc.?
I played with one at a shop I went to, pretty confident I was going to buy it. Once I realized I had no idea how to use the mod matrix I decided to buy something I could use right away. It probably is pretty simple but only if your somewhat familiar with that stuff. I will eventually get one though.
There are a couple of new ones from a Reverb seller still in stock for something like $254.99 right now.
Patch anything to anything…so it can get non musical crazy quite fast.
Audio rate cv control to anything with an input.
So you dont need to think in terms of an audio path and modulation path as they can “cross streams” and your osc can be a mod source and your envelope a sound source…
It really is fun and the more you play the more you see the limits of the architecture of synths you thought did it all…
How about something like a Dreadbox Erebus? I hear it has loads of character. Access Virus if you want the Swiss army knife of synths with great polyphony and on board fx. Maybe a Moog Minitaur for a dedicated bass synth with that signature moogy sound.
You already have quite a bit, maybe dig in to what you already have a little deeper?
yes, most of it
Synths are overrated. Its all about the beats and the bass
Save your money.
Since you dont really “need” a synth, why not trying to incorporate something with a unique sound? Like an Omnichord for example?
they are so fun to mess around with!
This one looks pretty unique:
Patching the Neutron or any other eurorack system isn’t complicated. It can look a little intriguing for the uninitiated. But i‘m sure you would be able to learn all the fundamental knowledge in just a few days.
@ Fin25
One thing i do to cope with GAS is playing with VCV rack… but it clearly dosn‘t work. I just got another module from Mutable Instruments because of VCV rack…
Be careful with the Neutron. There is a reason why it’s called “Eurocrack”!
