Hi guys. It’s been a while.
I’m writing you because I have some trouble integrating a Microkontrol (a 3 octave + bonus stuff like pads and encoders) to my usual gear: MD, MNM, A4, OT.
Right now the MD is the master clock, transport and program change.
So if I play/stop/change pattern on the MD the other 3 will follow.
Perfect.
Now I want to play my midi keyboard to write down melodies on my Mono (and possibily my analog 4 as well), without having to use the MNM as the start of the midi chain, or having to plug/unplug midi cables.
Basically what I would love is to plug the microkontrol out to the MD in and be able to reach the monomachine and the analog4 without loosing the ability to play/stop/transport/pchange the other three like I can do now.
What are the right global settings and cable/routing configuration to chieve this? I’m a bit confused.
octa track is the best for midi clock timing. much more accurate sequencer than the mono and the machinedrum particularly (the are older machines)
im gonna suggest make octa your master. > midi out to a4 midi in. > a4 midi thru to mono midi in. > mono midi thru to md midi in. than connect your controller to midi in on the octa track. dont forget to configure them.
as for audio. mono and a4 are routed to octa for sampling. machine drum sent to either the a4 (solid filter. sounds great.) or through mono which is easy to give up a track for a thru machine.
OT as master clock and midi keys to OT is far more flexible and stable. That way you can also sequence from the OT allowing the MnM to have microtiming and a p lockable arp for the A4. You can also simply record in the MnM as normal too without sequencing from the OT (you just need to select the midi channel in the OT midi sequencer to route the keys through). It really is versatile that way. Also OT clock is the most stable and having the midi sequencer attached is an easy way to add variation to sequences that are pre-programmed in the MnM or A4.
I should also add with this routing you don’t have to have the OT as the transport control, you can still have the md control the transport but OT be the clock… I think.
