I recently bought an Analog Four basically on a whim, and I could use some advice on set up. I’ll preface by saying that this is all completely new to me - I come from a background of playing piano. I’m planning on just messing around and creating sounds to see if I like it, and if so I will purchase Ableton to start recording stuff. I also have a full size M-Audio Accent keyboard that will probably be linked up in this setup at some point. So far I’ve been following youtube tutorials and I actually think the learning curve hasn’t been to bad. But it’s audio setup where I’m struggling.
I connected my A4 to a pair of Klipsch R15-PM monitors using the headphone out (primarily because that was the only connection I already have cables before, and I don’t really know what the other ones do). But the volume seems sporadic and it sometimes sounds like it is going to blow out my speakers. I also get buzzing - should I be earthing this somehow??
I don’t really know what CV outputs are, or the benefits of using that instead of just using the headphone out.
So yeah I probably shouldn’t have bought this, but I have, and any help is much appreciated for a complete noob.
Maybe there’s an LFO on the patch you have loaded. maybe hold down the track button that you’re on and push the play button which will clear the patch and see if you’re still having issues with the sound.
CV outlets are just for modular-like control and not for audio. Definitely stick with using the headphone outs or the main outs.
It’s a great synth, I think you definitely should have bought it.
Thanks Ryan, I’ll double check on that one! I did factory reset when I purchased, but yesterday I noticed that one track was causing more issues than another, and I have been messing around with LFO, so that could be it…
I just remembered I’ve actually noticed that the excessive bass/“blowing out” concerns have come up before with these monitors when using the aux in with my phone. At the time I thought it was my phone’s soundcard as this doesn’t happy when I use the phono input for my turntable or connect via blueooth. Will investigate if it could be a monitor problem, unless any knowledgable audio people here have any suspicions why that would happen.
If your monitors have that kinda input, that should work. You might want to invest in better monitors or headphones, though-from what it sounds like.
Even a decent $20-30 dollar set with an 1/8th inch adapter if need be- speakers can be expensive, and headphones will really let you hone in on the sound, imo
Edit: if you really feel like taking the technological plunge- if you have any OB enabled DAW you could even plug your A4 into you computer and just listen through the headphone jack of your computer, if that could be the most efficient?
