Hey, needing some help organising my setup at the moment. I’m running into 2 problems that I was hoping someone could help with:
I have midi out on the digitakt running into midi in on the Behringer TD-3. I have the clock settings on the TD-3 set so I can press play on the digitakt and the sequencer on the TD-3 will start playing which is fine. However, when I adjust the swing on the digitakt, the TD-3 does not swing with it. Do you think this is an issue with the TD-3? Or is there a setting on the digitakt that I’m missing?
When I have midi out on the digitakt running into midi in on the Korg Minilogue XD, I press play on the digitakt and the sequencer on the Minilogue XD does NOT start playing. I have clock source on the Minilogue set to ‘Auto (MIDI)’ and I have Clock Send on the digitakt activated. Again, do you reckon this is an issue with the minilogue XD or am I missing something on the digitakt?
Apologies if these are issues with both the TD-3 and the Minilogue XD, but I’ve taken a look through the manual of each and can’t seem to find any advice. Thanks in advance!
I don’t think the TD-3 can swing.
Check the XD manual for transport control. Clock is for sync.
En Rx Transport [Off, On]
Sets whether transport-related messages received as part of MIDI real-time messages such as start,
stop and continue will be received
For what it’s worth, I have my Minilogue XD slaved to my Digitakt out and the XD sequencer will not start with the Digitakt’s, regardless of the En Rx Transport settings. (I actually prefer it this way, though.)
I’ve never had a slaved device’s swing amount match the master sequencer’s when clock synced, either - I’ve always had to adjust the swing on each slaved device accordingly.
The Swing setting on the DT adjusts the swing of the internal patterns. MIDI clock messages are always transmitted with fixed, not swung, intervals. If you want swing on the TD-3 then you must either:
program the swing into the TD-3’s sequencer or
send MIDI note messages from the DT’s MIDI sequencer tracks to the TD-3.
Make sure that you have MIDI Route on the MXD set to ‘USB+MIDI’ instead of ‘USB’, as well as activating En Rx Transport as recommended above.
Make sure that the Digitakt is set up to send MIDI through its MIDI Out port in the SETTINGS menus.
Just as an FYI for anyone who sees this, I now have Midi Out from the Minilogue XD going to Midi In on the Digitakt and Midi Out from the Digitakt going to Midi In on the Behringer TD-3, and both tempo and swing affect all 3 instruments!
