Glad you got something out of it. I’ve just always found that with gear people can only compare to what they already know. I swear the first thing that clicks for you cements something in your brain. If you’re an MPC guy you’re an MPC guy. Same for step sequencers, synths samplers specific groove boxes etc. it’s kind of a shame for MPC heads because I’m sure most would love to see an old MPC with new specs. doesn’t look like they’re ever heading that way so best to just piece together what you need out of what exists. The aim of the game for me is countering as many flaws with as few pieces of gear as possible. The 1k is a great centre. the tiny bit of extra patience in use can actually be good for mindset. Good luck with it all
just sold off the Digitakt and the 404, i decided on an MPC1000 and an S20 to go along with it. appreciate y’all for all the help! soon as everything gets in i’ll show the setup.
first re-impressions: the S20 was absolutely the right choice and i really underestimated how good the 1K could sound. the jogwheel switch is probably my favorite part of all of it.
the thing that worked for me was just keeping stuff as simple as i could! complexity in studios is so ill to me, but if i have too many samplers or synths around me i’ll get lost. my computer’s just for Reaper sessions to do final touches and mastering, and then i’m off. everything gets recorded to chrome or metal tape on the Tascam and i love the way that it sounds, so it always goes before the AD conversion on my interface.
exactly yeah! my main goal is just making solid hip-hop and house jams for people to rhyme over or dance to or nod their heads to. the MPC’s just a piece in the whole ecosystem.
the Scott Pilgrim series has been one of my favs since i was a teenager lmao, the movie and the video game (+ Anamanaguchi’s soundtrack!) are cornerstones for me
